Hi everyone, as some of you may already know I am good mates with BBSF. I know him from uni and he's a good guy. I know he stirs people up sometimes and takes the piss a bit but he's really a good guy. I've noticed on here though that some people really have it in for him. I'm not sure why this is but he seems to be mentioned all the time and is constantly attacked. Its more than just joking round it seems like. People actually say some nasty stuff to him and seem to actually dislike him. As I say a bit of joking round is fine, but when it gets personal thats a bit too far in my opinion. I know people will say oh its just an internet forum, no one cares, but I know that people spend quite a bit of time on these things sometimes and personal attacks whether on the net or in person can actually hurt a person. I'm not saying this has pissed off BBSF, but lets just say some of the time he isn't laughing.
I've told him a few times that its just a joke and he should just let it be. But it gets to him a bit to be honest. He really likes to make people laugh on here so I guess its only natural that if enjoys entertaining people he could feel a bit bad if people constantly write nasty stuff about him. Anyway though I don't know if this is the right place to post this but there seems to be some serious topics discussed here, so I thought this is the place for non-piss take thread. I guess what I'd like to tell you is some stuff about BBSF that might surprise you guys. I always reckon its a good thing in life if you can see some good in people, especially ones you might not like.
So yeah, BBSF wouldn't say this stuff, probably cause its not really part of the persona he has on here as a ladies man and being a bit of a jock. But yeah its a story he told me a while ago and it surprised me a lot. Apparently when he lived in SA, he got caught up in some political stuff in Jo-Berg. His parents were pretty active in that department and had some strong beliefs. You probably don't know this but BBSF is actually part black, obviously not much haha, but theres a little bit in his bloodline through a great grandmother or something I think. But yeah his parents were pretty active in speaking out about a lot of racism in SA at the time. Essentially he has the same beliefs because he grew up around some real racism which is still very prevelent in parts of SA today. To cut a long story short, he attended some pretty heated protests at the time and took a big part in organizing them, even one at his school I think. It was a big risk at the time cause the police were threatening jail time for anyone involved in protests at the time because it could result in violence. I don't know if you'd call it bravery or stupidity but BBSF seemed to get even more egged on by that and did some extreme stuff, albeit for a good cause.
It ended up with BBSF spending 3 months in jail before he was realesed. It seems like a joke in terms of human rights , but in SA its pretty awful. I don't know if you'd go so far as to call him a political prisoner, but he certainly took some risks, albeit some of them stupid, for stuff he believed strongly in. I definately admire it though as its not something I could do. It certainly doesn't fit in with how he appears here on the forums or just generally in life. It really shocked me. It would be good then I reckon if a few people on here read this and realize that yeah, like I say no ones all bad. I reckon BBSF may not comment on this cause he might be a bit embarassed by it , but even so I hope I've maybe shown another side of the guy and that is he isn't just some total idiot.
