Well my day out went something like this
When I first got there is was hot as f**k and went to get a bottle of water, and heard this haunting jungle rythems come from Lillyworld (used to be Lillypad). There was a band from Redfern called Mission Ignition, that had a DJ providing background and lots of percussion, drums, congos, bongos, cowbell (you can never have too much cowbell) and even a beer keg. Great haunting sounds, as well as a few dancers, and 3 ladies wearing bugger all except a body stockings and twirling umberellas leaving nothing to imagine (don't know how they got away with it).
Then straight to the mosh, or should I say mud pit.
I just caught the end of Faker, not bad.
Then Gerling, not really into thier brand of dance music, but some of thier oldies are OK to shake your booty.
Magic Dirt, fantastic, they just get better everytime I see them. Their last song was really great ended with a drumn solo with Adileta playing on the drum kit with thier drummer. These guys have matured into a great Aussie band, and I love watching them.
Mudvayne, sounded great, just warming up when after 4 songs they lost power and we sat on out arses for 45 minutes. I prefer Slipknot, but I would have like to have heard more of Mudvayne.
After much delays and watching pissed off Mudvayne fans throw drink bottles, shoes, hats and all types of clothes, onto the stage, Wolfmother came on. I liked these guys. They sound identical to a band from the 60's called Uriah Heep. Great sound.
The Hilltop hoods came next and got the crowd jumping, there is just something about Aussie hop hop that doesn't do it for me.
I haven't heard a lot of the Kings of Leon. They just stand there and belt out hard rock songs, no flashy jumping around or chat between songs, just hard rock. By the time they got to the end of their set, I was a fan, good sound.
My highlight of the day, Living End, who are living legends, were next. If they aren't the best live Aussie band, I'm not here. Nothing gets a pit moshing more the Prisoner of Society. They played an incredible rock a billy instrumental, they stand on the big double bass, and even play the slide guitar with a stubby, INCREDIBLE LIVE BAND !!!!!!!!.
By this time its getting pretty opressive, and I think most bands mentioned the heat, and wanted to know how we could live in work in such a climate. It was just another day in paradise.
Franz Ferdinand, give me a break, what are you doning on the main stage at the BDO, time to get a stubby and a feed.
Ventured to the Green stage and caught At the Drive in mark II, the Mars Volta. Very full sound, 2 keyboards, sax/flute extra perscusionist. The comfort level in the tent was off the meter, but these guys were excellent. Unfortunatley they were too loud and distorted inside the tent, and some times you couldn't tell if the singer was singing. I would like to hear a lot more of Mars Volta, but they should have been on the main stage to fully appreciate them, instead of Franz Faggyland.
Iggy should have retired 20 years ago, most people didn't even know his songs, although at the end of his set eveyone was rocking, but I think it was the alcahol that was rocking.
Finally the White Stripes, or should I say Jack White. Incredible guitarist and songwriter, who should find a bass and a drummer. Meg White should be arrested for impersonating a musician, easily the worst drummer I've ever seen in my life, and I play the drums so I have some idea there.
Great sound but after 30 minutes they get repetative, mainly due to the fact that Meg only knows one drum beat. I don't think Jack White will ever reach his full potential, till he gets a real band.
Damn hot, but a fantastic day, Living End are living legends.
That was my day out.
