North Sydney Bears 44 (L Schaumkel 2, C Walker 2, N Brown, P Carter, Z Musgrove, D Nicholls tries; Nicholls 6 goals) bt Illawarra Cutters 32 (C Garvey 2, P Botiki 2, J Vaivai, L Page tries; B Wallace 4 goals)

SUMMARY: Cody Walker was exceptional in leading the North Sydney Bears to an imperative victory against the Illawarra Cutters in the 14-try affair. Darren Nicholls and Paul Carter were also magnificent for the Bears, while Craig Garvey and Peni Botiki scored two tries each for the gutsy Cutters

Turners playing for norths today,so Madge must have decided it was too soon for him.

I thought I saw Turner warming up in 1st grade in Jersey 20 tonight.

You would think after playing for Norths he wouldn't have to warm up with the team at ANZ in case of injury.

Carter should get a run against the Panthers--the club his father,Steve, holds the record for most games!!

Replace Lowe!

Replace Lowe!

Lowe only played the last 22mins and tonight looked off the pace.

Doyen I think Turner will come in for Lowe next week.

Hope Carter does.

It's too early for Turner,IMO.

Carter deserves to get a chance at Lowe's expense.

Carter has some class about him & is a tough nut!!

I believe he can cover lock,2nd row,hooker & 5/8 so he's great utility value.

I agree with your points.

Will be interesting to see what Madge does.

Carter looks the goods. He is a wrecking ball in defence. Quite brutal really.
Brown looked great as well.

Turner was injured in the first 5 minutes and didn't come back on until the last 10 minutes... he is actually a huge man. Much bigger than most on the field.

I truly feel for Walker. He just won't get a game all year, even if there are injuries. He is too different a player to the current 1st grade squad.
That said, a club like Manly would and should pay overs for him, definitely good enough for NRL.
Probably would have been given a shot earlier this season if it wasn't for his domestic violence charge.

I like the look of Crichton and Jack Gosweiski too. They are both probably a year away from pushing for a first grade spot.

Is Walker, potentially,a better player than Reynolds??

I would have liked to have seen the combo of Keary at half & Walker at 5/8 earlier in the year.ie.when AR was injured!!

From what I know he has a more well rounded game than Reyno; more of a runner than a kicker.

All we know is that he is kicking ass in NSW Cup. Reyno has won a premiership with his club and has played in the finals all his career.

agreed.
As good as Walker is, Reynolds has done just as much but against a better opposition.

Even if Cody got a go when Reyno was injured Cody would have been sent straight back to the Bears when Adam returned from injury.

IMO Walker should have played NRL in Rd 10 against the storm but Madge went for Sutto at 5/8, Souths were short in the forwards for that match and Sutto should have been in the second-row.

Please...

Adam Reynolds is an NRL premiership winning halfback who has been dominating at NRL level for years. The only reason he hasn't played origin is because of injury. He is in the top 5 halfbacks in the game.

Cody Walker is a nobody.

Anyone who even tries to draw a comparison is an idiot.

Walker is two years of first grade football away from even being able to lace up Reynolds boots. That's if he ever cracks first grade.

Adam has a habit of imploding with injury.

SOO is the hardest & toughest RL arena on the the planet.Brittleness would not help one's cause in that area.

We can only hope & pray that Adam will make it to the finals as Sths definitely need his pointscoring ability. But I hold my breath with Adam!!

I don't think your statement re. Adam dominating the NRL for years is true either.

Cody Walker is a good player who has been unlucky not to make first grade.

A person is not an idiot,as you put it,for comparing players.

Anyone with any fairness would say that Walker deserved[& has earned] a chance in first grade;somewhere!!!

He'll probably get that opportunity when Adam gets injured.

I wouldn't say Adam has imploded with injury. This year he's been unlucky and the only other time was in the 2012 prelim. Apart from that he's been available so I disagree with your statement.

Adam cops plenty of tough knocks and everything and he isn't brittle he's a tough tough gutsy guy that's for sure.

Keary is carrying an ongoing foot injury with painkilling needles so you'd better hope Keary makes it to the finals.

Adam is a top halfback in the NRL and I rate him higher than Pearce, DCE and Johnson.

Without Adam doyen Souths wouldn't be making the top 4 the last 3 years as simple as that.

Imo you can't compare Cody to Adam, it's a bit silly. Adam is a premiership winning halfback and is a vital part of our team and how we perform.

Earlier this season Cody deserved a go but WOULD NOT have stayed in first grade as I have no doubt at all Madge would drop Cody straight back to Norths and rightly so when Adam returned.

If Adam gets injured in the coming weeks doyen I know you won't like what I have to say but it will be Sutton going back to 5/8. It won't be Cody.

At times doyen I feel like you're a bit harsh on Adam.

hmm i wouldn't be moving keary or reyno, but thinking out of the box... has cody ever played dummy half??? with luke not at souths next year, if mcinnes doesnt work out at dummy half then maybe cody could have a shot at the position...

Adam is gutsy--no doubt on that score.

But he has had problems with his legs that goes back prior to his intro to 1st grade when he spent a whole season out with a knee prob.He has had a couple of problems in that area since.

I have been critical of him mainly due to lack of speed off the mark--probably due to previous injury.I prefer halves that have the speed & inclination to occasionally take on the line with some chance of success.
I rate Keary a better genuine half than Adam.
That is why I was eager to see Walker get a chance earlier when Adam was injured!!ie.instead of the retro step of JS.

I guess I've seen too many games where Adam's only approach has been to kick across field after the forwards"arse-upping" their way ahead under his guidance. This is not a positive approach--more lucky-dip stuff!

He has a very good kicking game[& I know that's important]in the "modern game"---but it is not all that impressive when rating the true all round ability of players.

I wanted to at least see Cody get a few games when Adam was injured so as we could all see his capabilities; but alas JS reared his ugly head again at 5/8.

If JS,for some reason, ends up at 5/8 come final's time our chances of going back to back will be severely reduced.

Cody, given a chance at dummy-half sometime in the future, is a good suggestion,IMO.
Adam has missed a fair bit of footy this season--the battered body doesn't usually improve over time--it weakens & becomes more vulnerable---so Cody needs to hang in for his chance--I hope it's not at Adam's expense but the chances are it could be!!

You say having Sutto back at 5/8 in the finals means our chances will be severely reduced.

Well if Cody plays first grade at 5/8 in the finals then we have zero chance. Madge won't put an unproven rookie into the finals cauldron for obvious reasons.

When Cody gets a chance it won't be due to Reynolds being dropped, this just won't happen. Reynolds is a brilliant halfback.

The best chance Cody has is getting time at hooker next year.
