I'm watching again now and agree with a lot of this. Crichton is a risk Vs reward option I just think the risk is worth it. Luai is actually better in attack from 9 than 6. How is that possible @franklin2323 you know the lower grades?!

I haven’t seen anything to show he has a high footy IQ. Hooker he can just give good service and run when a gap shows. Defence is the issue

This is it in a nutshell. However, I think Whare is also the best centre we have at the club - not surprising we had no issues down our right side yesterday.

Like most on here, I think Naden has to go to wing. He had some truly inept defensive efforts yesterday. If he stays at centre, the left side will continue to be our weakness.

Obviously Mansour then misses out. Not that he had a terrible game yesterday - bombed a try then touched down Burton's grubber but probably lucky that Fergo had 1 of his shockers. Naden I think just provides more upside than Mansour (if not right now then definitely by the end of the season).

The question then is what to do at FB? I'm not sold on Crichton as an option there and a part of me salivates at the thought of Burton there, but realistically I don't see our first 5 rounds as the time to throw anyone in the deep end. So Aekins is my pick for round 1 on a perform or perish basis. In particular he needs to show speed, footwork or ball-play - none of which I saw from him yesterday.

My team for Round 1:
  1. Aekins
  2. To'o
  3. Whare
  4. Crichton
  5. Naden
  6. Luai/Burton
  7. Cleary
  8. Tamou
  9. Koroisau
  10. JFH
  11. Kikau
  12. Capewell
  13. Yeo
  14. Kenny
  15. Tetevano
  16. Martin
  17. Leota/Hetherington
I saw enough yesterday to know that Luai can't cover the hooking duties when Api has a break - defensively we go to pieces. So Kenny needs to be on the bench.

Look at the whole left side.
Mansour not a good defender
Rookie 5/8th
Burns with 2 FG games. One of which was at centre

So would Crichton alone done any better?
Part of the reason I wanted more forwards was the lack of experience led to issues in defence.

Cleary should be on that side. Having Kikau outside him will help him get try assists and his defence will allow a left centre to be able to be part of a solid defence.

I have said Kikau should play 60 minutes so even if you put Yeo there to start. Tightens up the defence and has a fresh Kikau against tiring defence

Just got to the last eels try and the replay shows Crichton held him up haha.
I thought that yesterday. Also thought the try before that looked likeit was bounced/knocked on after we failed to ground it.

God I hope we get more luck from the bunker than the guys on the field. They're happy to award anything that looks close to a try... and in some cases even ones that didn't look close.

We have never been well liked by officials. But it feels worse than usual IMO. Not going to get very far if we can't get a fair go from the officials.

We all know Cleary is more conservative than Margaret Thatcher so Mansour will be playing.
haha

Agree about Kenny if Api can't play 80 but I think Ivan said he won't be available for round 1.

You're not wrong. This pre-season has been a great advertisement for the bunker.

If the refs were on trial yesterday as well they would be in Reggies next time.

He let one bounce by being timid. Might be the best of our options there but he needs to pull the trigger and commit to making the ball his
That kick was shanked badly though, and was landing in the line of players. Not too many would have made an attempt to get near that one, and even less would have actually caught it.

Again nathan at 5/8th would solve that, Naden on the wing, next to kikau and Crichton

Edwards is as good as Gutho with a different skill set.

At this stage Gutherson is 18th man for NSW. Edwards is floating between NRL and NSW cup standard. I think Edwards has potential but I dont see a lot.
Lacks genuine speed, energy, kicking game, passing game and average under high ball.
Once he fixes these he could be a top fullback...But I wouldn't be suprised if he disappears from NRL.

Fair enough, be positive then dont offer ideas on how to get rid of Dylan Edwards and swap him for some d3adshit from the bunnies, the amount of times youve posted dumb nonsense regarding players off contract like tim mannah or jarryd hayne, and then saying yeah they'd do well at the riff.
No they fkn wont, this club dont want dreggs from other clubs, so please be positive but stop throwing around names thinking, we'd agree, parra sux, their fans moreso, and i hope ypu guys add another spoon this year to your cabinet

Gunderson won't ever play for NSW or Australia. Neither will Edwards but you are massively understating Edwards. His ball running and support play is far better than Gutherson.
