he and the players have been cheated: their premierships stripped, prizemoney refunded, made to play for zero points all season but he doesnt seem to understand we have ALL been cheated: every club, every player, every fan

its mindblowing to think of how this act by just one club has created a ripple affecting the whole nrl, things have been so fundamentally changed its impossible to imagine how the last 5 years would have played out if melbourne had been competing legally

To be honest, I don't think some of those years would have panned out massively differently at all.
Apparently they were over the cap 200,000 in each of the first three years - probably only equivalent to one good quality (not superstar level) player - then 400,000 last year and 700,000 this year.

Of course that makes a difference, but I reckon they would only have been, on average, one player down each year - and there's every chance they would have achieved just the same without them.

That's one thing that's so disappointing in all this - we will never know if the Storm could have been just as successful if they'd stuck within the cap. I reckon there's every chance they could.
And who knows if those top earning players would actually have accepted less money if they'd been offered it - perhaps the amount on the 'official' NRL contracts.

As for Bellamy and the players, I imagine they are constrained in what they can say for legal reasons. They may at this stage not be allowed to point the finger at anyone else, so instead they're just trying to galvanise the team.
I imagine they'll have plenty to more to say as the situation develops...

I don't know about being limited in what they can say.

Bellamy cannot answer questions on the issue but is happy to take pot shots from behind his barricades.

I have no problem with an internal seige mentality. It keeps spirit in the club. But to sprout some of the rubbish he and his players have been over the last few days is pretty pathetic

This Year?

An angry Craig Bellamy makes a phone call to David Gallop.

Craig Bellamy: "David, I want the trophies back."

David Gallop : "No Craig, you can't have them. Did you forget that your club won those under false pretenses?"

Craig Bellamy: "But we won those games. The players and the fans are angry. They deserve the trophies."

David Gallop: "But your club broke the rules, giving your team an unfair advantage. That is unfair to the other 15 clubs."

Craig Bellamy: "But it was us who won, not the other 15 clubs. Do I have to get a lawyer like my mate Wally does?"

David Gallop: "Ummm Craig, you do realise that legally you don't have a leg to stand on?"

Craig Bellamy: "This is unfair. We have worked hard for this, only to have it taken away over some technicality. This club has worked so hard to gain the support of Victorians, and there's a big TV deal coming up. You don't want to jeopardise that do you?"

David Gallop: "Well then your club shouldn't have cheated. Maybe because of the actions of your club, the other 15 clubs could launch a class action. If they were successful, it could put your club in a very bad financial position."

Craig Bellamy: "But we are playing for nothing! There is no point in playing for nothing."

David Gallop: "I'm sure the fans don't see it that way Craig. If it wasn't for the fans, the club could have had their license suspended. You wouldn't want that would you?"

Wow, how long it take you to come up with this?

I reckon Bellamy should just play possum on this question from now on.

it's called denial

In the abc interview, Gallop said something along the lines of any player who signed two contracts HAD to have had alarm bells ringing

common sense, no?

Apparently not if you believe the populace here and in some facets of the media taxidriver.
Honestly, and for f**ks sake, I know some footballers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed the MINUTE you put your X onto two near enough to identical documents for differing amounts then surely something, some semblance of individual thought, must click over in the brain to say "well how come I am getting deposits into a nominated account for X amount by way of the storm, but I seem to be copping all these kickbacks that don't have a company attached to them or tax?"

I f**king tell you what, after all the drinking that has gone on over the last few years, they sent players to behaviour courses.
After all the other sh*t, there was a course for that.

NOW for this sh*t fight I think its time to send the players on another course, the one titled "USE YOUR BRAIN FOR ONCE f**kHEAD!" outlining the principles involved in legally binding contracts, the reason that any 'duplicate' should be a carbon copy of the original, all alterations / codicils are noted properly and maybe some basic accounting, like how if you and 5 of your mates are on $500,000 then it really doesn't leave much for the rest of the team to play with, if you only line up with 10 other blokes then all is well, if you continue to be surrounded by a team of superstars, start asking questions.

players MUST have known this
because when they put in their tax return, SURELY it was less than what they got?
or the total amount was more than what they signed for?
either way there is a discrepancy.

and if bellamy had no idea
he definitely would be angry with the management, if he was totally blindsided by this problem then his indignation would be directed elsewhere.

i mean if ur workplace rorted the govt and the govt caught them out
and so u paid some penalty to the govt
u would be angry with the govt but also ur workplace
unless u knew what ur workplace was doing in the first place

and another angle is has the club been declaring all it's income to the ATO which is another can of worms in itself

Michael Luck said on Radio Sport in New Zealand this morning that he knew where all his money came from. Enough said, end of story.
