No sympathy from me for Ben Barba. You make your own bed you lay in it.

It's a bit rich bringing out the I have to support my family line given his numerous indiscretions.

On a side note something that is often lost in the use of illicit drugs is the fact the persons who partake are responsible for supporting organised crime and drug cartels who involve themselves in Murder, Extortion and other heinous criminal activity. This is a fact which should not be forgotten.

Since when did Barba take peptides? It was cocaine ffs.

Honestly I love this game but a vast amount of supporters are complete and utter imbeciles.

The peptides scandal was years ago, learn to move on for f**ks sake.

So let me get this straight...

1. Barba gets done with Coke in his system, not once but twice.
2. His contract is torn up as a result
3. The NRL tell him he must serve out a 12 match ban
4. He signs a new contract with the sharks which is essentially for half a year
5. NRL takes a few weeks to process and approve the contract
6. In the meanwhile, despite being on several hundred thousand dollars per year for a number of years, Ben doesn't have enough in the bank to pay his mortgage for 6 months
7. Signs a 6 month contract with Frog Ball to pay the bills and blames the NRL

lol.

1. Don't do drugs and you don't have this problem in the first place.
2. You're earning 10 times the average wage champ and that isn't going to last forever... Maybe you should put some in the bank...

What an absolute f**king moron
tbf, the poor bugger does have three mortgages... *sarcasm*

Ask Foran. He's been waiting since September.

Maybe Kieran is waiting because he is still not ready to play again??

How do you know what he has or has not been told with regards to expectations for his reinstatement?

One major condition was keeping away from Hayson and he was seen with him subsequent to that so the idiot is in much the same position as Barba for mine. Ie an self entitled idiot who plays the victim every time the shit hits the self inflicted fan.

Did I just hear Ben Barba say "the NRL hasn't really given me much?"

This dimwit should be eternally great full that the NRL has allowed him to earn about 600k per year for the last 5 years.

Because if he wasn't a footy player he'd either be a trolley boy or a welfare dependant drug addict.

I thought he was talking about how they haven't given him much info about his suspension.
He is still waiting for an answer after 3 months.

I only heard a soundbite so perhaps that is the case.

It would certainly make more sense, unless Benny has gone full 'Mal Meninga'.

I don't think barba or Foran have blamed anyone else for their problems champ. So I dont know about playing the victim card.

I know you must be salty that your team backed the wrong horse but it's some pretty rough name calling on someone who obviously has well documented medical issues and od'ed. guess he should just harden up and stop being a nice person hey

Lol

Way to add 2 and 2 and come up with 5.

My point had NOTHING to do with any mental illness issues, you dunce. I am not belittling Foran for his mental health issues and wish him nothing but the best in overcoming them.

As for backing the wrong horse....you must be drunk.

Oh, and please do enlighten us on the dialogue between the NRL and Foran/Warriors given you raised the point and inferreed the NRL were at fault there.

Danish let's say player X has signed a two year with the Tahs and in his last NRL game he King hits someone and gets suspended for 10 games. He then goes and plays out his rugby contract and signs with an NRL club again, should he not be made to serve the suspension for King hitting a player? Of course he should. You can just run away from it.

I can see your point in that regard. Foul play penalties it makes sense for the ban to carry over. Moral justice penalties however I'm not as happy with being enforced in such a way. You should be banned from the game for a set period of time and thats that. If Barba wants to go embarrass himself playing plastic rugby for a few weeks until he can come crawling back to the real game, I've got no issue with that.

I also feel like its different here since Barba did not choose to not have an NRL contract, he had his contract torn up only for the same club to come back to him in a matter of weeks trying to offer him a new deal (making it seem like the Sharks had more of a problem with how much salary cap he was taking up rather than what he was getting up to in his spare time). If the Sharks had instead fined him heavily but left him on their roster this whole situation would be avoided.

Eels response to their dui player seems a very measured and professional way of dealing with such things. Hopefully a good sign for their new management.

Dear members,

The Parramatta National Rugby League Club Pty Limited has reviewed the recent incident involving Peni Terepo in the early morning of Sunday 8 January 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Last Friday, Peni pleaded guilty to careless driving and refusing to give a blood alcohol test. Peni has admitted that he had been drinking.

The Club was unaware of this incident until it was reported in the New Zealand media last Friday (27 January 2017).

In the interests of fairness, we have spoken with Peni in order to hear his version of events. In addition, we have spoken with his Manager, the Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) and the NRL Integrity Unit.

In order to consider all elements around this incident, our Club has conducted internal discussions with our staff, including Head Coach, Brad Arthur, and other coaching & support staff; accordingly, other pertinent considerations are:

· Peni came over from New Zealand in 2009 and entered the Parramatta Eels junior development program and so the 2017 NRL season will be Peni’s 9th season with our Club. Peni is 25 years old.

· Peni has played 123 games for the Eels, 74 in the NRL and another 49 in the Junior Representative teams. Of the current senior playing squad, Peni has played the second highest number of games for our Club (behind Tim Mannah).

· During his time at our Club, Peni has not been involved in any prior unacceptable incident. This is his first offence.

· Peni has been a valuable contributor to our Club’s community activities.

· Peni is well-respected by his fellow players and the Club’s coaching & support staff.

· In our discussions, Peni has accepted total responsibility, apologised to the Club and demonstrated genuine remorse for his actions.

The Club views drink driving as an extremely serious offence. We have reiterated to Peni in very strong terms that this behaviour is totally unacceptable. The other concerning element of this incident was that Peni did not advise the Club.

The Club is of the opinion that Peni has acted in breach of his National Rugby League Playing Contract. Under the terms of the NRL Playing Contract, the Club is permitted to take action when a player is in breach of the NRL Playing Contract.

The Club has determined to take the following action:

1. Fine Peni Terepo an amount of $15,000 from his 2017 Playing Fee.

2. Suspend Peni Terepo for the following matches:

· The 2017 Auckland “9’s” tournament.

· The first three (3) 2017 NRL matches of the Club.

Peni Terepo will also not be permitted to play in the Club’s NSWRL Cup team during this period.

3. Have Peni Terepo engage in educational courses related to drink-driving.

Peni has accepted the above action by the Club.

Our Club has maintained a constructive dialogue with Peni’s manager, the NRL Integrity Unit and the RLPA during this process.

Have not changed my position.

The NRL are not the police, recreational drugs are the job of the police.

Performance enhancing, is what needs to be checked.

As I understand it I could use many performing enhancing drugs, quite legally, I do not play professional sport.

Police to police recreational drugs.

Sporting bodies to police performance enhancing drugs. That give an advantage.

Otherwise you end up here, looking like this, making your own rules on the fly.

Think of the children blah blah.........

So what are you belittling them both about by the words "self entitled" and "plays the victim every time"? Please enlighten me as i don't get it. Cos it really does sound like you're sore about them referring to their various mental health and personal issues as explanations for their gambling and drug issues.

My point is the nrl are presumably not registering them due to concerns about player welfare. But why not just register the contracts and suspend them for a period? Why hold the uncertainty over registering them as to whether they are eventually going to play or get paid. Can't do much to someone's welfare. Meanwhile theyre happy to let Roberts play on with whatever welfare plan the broncos showed them.

The delay not the suspension is why barba said bye bye

You can argue whether or not NRL players should be considered role models for young people, but at the end of the day the fact is that they are. They are also the public face of the NRL and the actions they take reflect not just on themselves, but on their club and their code. They need to understand that and start acting in ways that add value to their club and code, not act all entitled when caught doing the wrong thing.

They are also far from the only profession where doing drugs or committing assaults or even drink driving would cost them their career. If caught, teachers, doctors, military personnel and even politicians would be raked over the coals and turfed out.

Barba, to be blunt, can suck it up. The NRL has failed to do enough to keep other young, promising players in the game in the past... but this is an outcome he's created for himself.

Also just once, just once it would be nice to see the Broncos actually walk the walk after talking the talk on stuff like this. Bennet bloviates at great length about how it's important to be not just a good player but a good man yet when push comes to shove it's the fringe players who pay for their indiscretions while the stars get umpteen million extra chances.

And I say that as a Broncos fan. The naked hypocrisy annoys the living hell out of me. If you're going to say it, do something about it. It's even worse than just making excuses and vague statements about how they're very sorry it's come to this and it won't happen again and blah blah blah and oh look, five minutes have passed and someone else has stuffed up, they're very sorry too and...

What a load of dribble... of course the NRL has to take some sort of stance. I suppose you say the same thing about domestic violence that is also a police matter and nothing to do with the NRL. When mud hits the NRL it hits the game of league from the bottom to the top snd by that I mean u8s to the NRL. The games profile takes a hit and its commercial partners take a hit and like it or not the NRL plays a big role in our community.

Really the Sharks should have taken the lead straight away and placed their own ban even before the integrity commission handed down their punishment. We all know the NRL brand name is a very durable commodity but they can not sit on their backside and brush these things under the table as they have done in the past. The key to this situation is they have to be consistent and treat the superstar the same way they would treat a reserve grader.
