He didn't organise a presser, the journos confronted him outside his house. The journos were presumably asking him why he signed. What could he have said in your eyes that would not play the victim card?

If he said no comment you would say he was being sly.

Was the original one 6 months?

Yep, the original deal with Toulon was for 6 months.

So his theory was to bugger off and get the cash there then walk straight into a Sharks jersey.

Really sounds like a bloke repentant and "willing to take his medicine"..........

As for what he could have said, not a lot. Simply because he was being a half smart dickhead and trying to circumvent the ban by playing yawnion whilst serving his suspension.

He's like these morons on those RBT shows who tell the coppers "you are ruining my life, I will lose my job". Well no idiot, you drank and drove, so YOU have done it.

Have another line Ben.

The way I see things is that he signed a reduced contract with the Sharks and the NRL sat on their hands and did nothing. So whether for whatever childish reason you may not like him as a "player" the NRL has lost a great talent to Yawnion.

End of story.

Don't know that you can say that they sat on their hands...

They're trying to run a billion dollar business and every time one of these players does something negative to drag the game into the media it impacts the clubs, sponsors, fans and game in general in a negative way.

The NRL obviously have rules and regulations in place around drug offenses and in this case it meant an automatic 12 game ban. Now remember that Barba already had a contract in place and it was decided between he and the Sharks to tear this up. Then they tried to register a new contract only a few weeks later.

When they did this, they were the ones to open the can of worms. The Sharks and Barba are the ones who took this from being a simple 12 game ban to new contracts and uncharted territory. Of course the NRL would have had to screen the contract with a fine tooth comb to make sure the Sharks and Barba hadn't invented some new loophole that would get the other clubs off side or that another drug banned player could exploit. Remember, they're running a billion dollar business here and so they can't just enter into an agreement with a player and club because Ben's having a bit of trouble paying the mortgage.

Ben is the one that kicked over the ants nest in the first place so he should have shown some humility and let the NRL run through their processes in trying to accommodate him back in the game. The fact that he didn't speaks volumes about the type of person he is.

???????
Is this some sort of joke?
Plenty of State Cup players that have walked into the Wannabies over the last 10 years and a few 1st graders also.
Off the top of my head -
- Matt Rogers
- Berrick Barnes
- Ryan Cross
- Craig Gower
- Shontaye Hape
- Duncan McCrae
- Andrew Walker
- Brett Sheehan

All small, and a few very average state cup players that all killed it in Yawnion.

Most of those blokes had played Union previously. Probably only Gower and Walker that had not.

As an aside, I wouldn't call Rogers a little bloke. He probably had 15 kilo's on Ben Barba.

Good for him, he wasn't gonna sit around on his arse and wait for the NRL to decide when to register his contract.

Asked whether he was hoping to serve the ban during his time in France, Barba responded: “The NRL hasn’t given me much, if it comes to that I might never play the game again.

“So I’ll just go from there and listen to the guys that take care of me and we’ll make the decision at the end of the day.

“They’ve had quite a while to sort my stuff out. It’s taken them three months and nothing’s been sorted out.

“As I said I’ve just gone along with the flow and listened to the guys that take care of me.”

Great post. The NRL is notorious at taking their time to register contracts for players with off field issues this isn't an isolated incident just for Barba, so why should he get special treatment? It was his actions that caused the problem in the first place.

Not to mention he was also recently in 'rehab', hardly an automatic registration as a "fit and proper person".

You might want to read the circumstances of when he was questioned.

He was trying to put his baby in his car while in his driveway
Josh Massoud ambushed him and was bombarding him with questions.

He has never said anything apart from he f**ked up badly and it is all his own fault.

Ah resorting to personal attacks good one. Shows the mentality of Melbourne supporters right there. Stick to your sport of 20 ladyboys wearing tight shorts and singlets getting a point for missing!

Bit rich coming from someone from Adelaide buddy.

Perhaps if you read the post you quoted properly you wouldn't have looked like such a dumbass.

Yep well done Greenberg

Didn't have a clue what to do or how to do it
So he did nothing
Now Barba is on quadruple money in France .
That taught other players a real lesson

I bet quadruple money isn't enough to keep him in France for 2 and a half years.

I know it must f**king suck to lose a Grand Final, I wasn't around in 1978 so I wouldn't know what it's like but for f**k sakes stop being so butthurt. The amount of tears shed by Melbourne supporters would fill up that f**king lake you call the Yarra 12 times over.

The fact is the NRL majorly f**ked up once again and sat on their hands in registering his contract after he signed that deal with the Sharks.

The NRL sits around scratching their arses wondering why it loses players to rugby union, well it's clear to anyone why this is the case. The NRL under News and now under Grant and Greenberg couldn't run a piss up in the Carlton & United Brewery.

The inconsistency is mind blowing.

Exactly and the NRL sits around scratching themselves and wondering why the game keeps losing players to other codes.

Greenberg and his cronies simply wouldn't be able to run a piss up in a brewery.

The NRL would be stoked with this result, you are dreaming if you think otherwise.

They are going to look pretty f**king stupid if he carves it up in union and then gives himself a shot at a Wallabies jersey in the future.

If that happens it will be another league star playing union due to the league's stupidity.
