Ben Hunt requests release from the Drags

Brisbane were heavily criticized for not releasing Jack Bird who was homesick, despite having another year on his contract. Nobody had any sympathy for Brisbane for when they released Bird and had to eat some of his contract. Any St George fans expecting sympathy in this situation need to look to the past.

I guess that’s one way to interpret the situation.

That's definitely a revisionists look at what happened

Not sure how the Broncos can fit a million dollar player into their squad? Mid season transfers are garbage. Gasnier, SBW, Lodge, TPJ. All dodgy.

You are right, however the deal he would sign with us wouldn't be for an entire season.

Absolutely!! ;);)

We all love it when our club can find some added talent late in the season, don't we.

this u when TPJ ditched Brisbane for PeNriTh in late 2021:

and

That’s some quality deep diving. I’ve got no issue with it happening if it’s all above board. Play on.

Bit of a difference though, TPJ was getting pushed out by the broncs to free up space while Hunts being tapped up behind his clubs back.

Pangai Jr had been agitating for a release for a good year before the Broncos said enough was enough. Don't forget he got suspended for the rest of 2020 for breaching COVID protocols and then weeks before he was eventually granted his release he was meeting with the Tigers CEO and coach

The key difference between the two scenarios is TPJ is shit and Ben Hunt has been rep quality for a decade.

Can we forget the details and get to the story? The Broncos are now a true premiership force.

Bought or bred (Who's counting?), they are here to win.

If I was a Dragons supporter, I'd be fine with the release under the proviso he honours the final year of his original contract.

Both parties need to move forward and put an end to this chapter. However I would remind Ben if he leaves now he's well and truly leaving the club in a lurch when he has an opportunity to end his time on a high note.

Compare the way both him and Tuivasa-Sheck handled themselves. It was Roger who suggested he'd make way for Reece Walsh and assist his development. It was a classy move and when Tuivasa-Sheck was granted his release early, no Warriors fan said boo.

Hunt has the same opportunity with Amone, Sullivan and Herring. You can go to dummy half, give them quality ball and just give the club some momentum heading into their next chapter.

It'd be a full circle moment as well considering Wallace did him that favour at the Broncos. It was especially generous of Peter considering the Broncos screwed Wallace out of a better deal at Penrith.

As a Broncos fan, I'm not going to lie. If Ben Hunt wants to play with for the club for the rest of the season I'd welcome him with open arms. However the Dragons are well within their rights to release him on their terms and I hope both parties can reach an agreement.

Nobody should be feeling any sympathy whatsoever for a poorly managed merged club.

Brought entirely on themselves. Now they’re recruiting a known cheat.

Get out while you can Ben Hunt.
No sympathy for the Dragons here, just think it's BS that a club running 1st with 10 rounds to go can just click their fingers and sign a million-dollar player for the rest of the year.

What a load of horseshyte.

He was injury prone & had played SFA games for Brisbane (17 games in 2 years).

Brisbane wanted him out the door ASAP, they had signed him on a 4 year deal worth 4 million dollars. They agreed to cover most of his remaining contract. If they didn't want him gone they wouldn't have forked out so much $$.

Entirely Brisbane's stuff up 4 years on 4 mill (seriously). He didn't sign a contract extension months before getting a release. Not even remotely similar. It's not as if Brisbane don't have a history of shocking over paid signings. Martin Kennedy, Ben Barba, Anthony Milford (although Milf did give you one good year out of 6), Isaac Luke & Jack Bird.

I don't remember much criticism at all, barely a ripple if any. Enough of the histrionics mate.
