I don't know what he's on but I do know that my club wouldn't have let him go without another club offering a substantial amount more than what we were prepared to pay. Hunt isn't in the Thurston category of elite halves but this a guy we've nurtured all the way to where he is now, we wouldn't be letting him go for peanuts, he's a good player.. I just don't think he's THAT good of a player.

Millward would be downplaying what the contract is, probably so realist Dragons fans don't start throwing their arms around in disbelief, I don't think he's on more than a million but he wouldn't be on less than 850k either. I don't know what he's on and neither does anyone else in this forum but from a Dragons perspective it has to be alarming that we could have retained him if it was around that million dollar figure, given we went out and got Jack Bird. Bird's contract was initially reported as 3 years for 2.1 mill, then later it was 4 years for 4 mill, so somewhere in between there is what we were able to spend, we chose not to on Hunt, be that because we don't value him or be that because the Dragons offer was significantly more, only Hunt and his management know the answer. I lean towards the latter, simply because he's a natural half whom we have had in our system since 2008, you don't devalue someone 9 years after you brought them into the grade.

Bennett has always had an opinion on Hunt too, back at the Knights he wanted to sign him to Newcastle, Hunt stayed.
If the NRL allowed Brisbane to make up the difference of a Dragons offer free of the salary cap. . . assuming it was no more than 20% . . . because he was a one-club player none of this would have happened. Heaven forbid if every club was given 20% leeway to keep it's one-club players

He was in the shed without a sling, i'm no doctor but I know how discomforting a dislocation is and he didn't seem to be in any discomfort at all.. like I said in the other thread, we have 2 byes as well as Origin, we probably miss him for 2-3 games where he would have played

Oh ok. Cheers for the correction.

Broncos still undefeated without Hunt... and Nikorima has proven he can do anything Hunt can do also.

But Hunt will be back with Milford out.

And he beat another premiership heavyweight in Souths to get there.

Found any of those examples of Dragons fans claiming Hunt's the best half in the game yet?

Who needs to fine it? I remembered exactly who and where I read it:

There's no doubt Doust has one eye on Bellamy - that would be his ultimate prized offering to the club ! I think McGregor has done something very well and that's built a team culture where everyone is playing for the team and not them selves - no one player is bigger than the club - I think he can get good results for us over the next 2 1/2 years . Expect top 4 finish next 3 seasons as a minimum - this team has self belief and the best halfback on the Comp is on his way next year!

The consensus in the Dragons forum ranged from him being in the top 3 halves to the best.

There were only a very few who thought he was a bad buy earning too much money and everyone is ripping into those people.

I went in to read the thread on McGregor re-signing and this was in that thread.

I'd have hated to know how bad Hunt would have been at finding the in goal like Marshall did!

From reserve grade to SOO within a day.

Has there ever been a more meteoric rise?

Michael Jennings was picked from reserve grade for NSW a few years ago.

Top 3 halves in the comp:

1. JT
2. Cronk
3. (mass arguing ensues)

I wouldn't put Hunt there, but he's one of many who would go into the argument. The only thing that is certain is that he is a massive upgrade on McCrone, and probably worth whatever we're paying him (whether it's 900k or 1.2 mil). Certainly at the time of the signing it was a no-brainer.

When he delivers under pressure in a big game maybe he could be argued as being a top 10 half. But until then he is well behind a list of players who have proven themselves in Origin and/or Grand Finals IMO.

If your team was playing in a grand final tomorrow, you could pick any 2 halves in the competition you would be crazy if he was even in your top 10 choices.

Hopefully the Dragons can develop him into the half they have paid for. I would love to see him make Broncos regret his loss. But honestly cant see it happening. He looks to be another Chris Sandow for me. Never going to live up to expectations.

Like many Dragons fans I am genuinely excited that we have signed Hunt whether its for 900k or 1.2m. I dont think there is any comparison with Sandow at all which I think to compare him to is harsh. Sandow never played any finals football, was a defensive liability(except for his shoulder charge), floated in and out of games.
One thing is for certain, this will be an interesting topic from 2018 onwards.

This whole 'needs to prove he can deliver under pressure' thing is very interesting to me.

I'm interested to know, who would the 10 halves you'd have ahead of him going into a grand final (considering you aren't crazy)? There's a few you'd obviously take without a second thought - JT, Cronk and Maloney. Who else?

Pearce? Sure, he scraped through one big-stage on the back of SBW, but taken to the origin arena and he's consistently failed for years.
DCE? A premiership and a CC medal, followed by being the only halfback to lose to NSW in over 10 years.
Townsend? As in the guy who was hooked for a poor showing in a prelim final?
Hell, Nikorima dropped a kickoff with far less pressure than Hunt last night, best we earmark him for mediocrity for good. Sorry, Broncos fans!
Where are all these 100% dependable 'big game' halves?
