May have been answered elsewhere but can anyone tell me why Gerard Beale is not playing?

Did a hammy at the 9's and wasn't right for rnd1, eased back on to the bench but the team is performing well so he has to dip out I guess. He should be playing reggies for match fitness though.

He was a bit fat too. :sarcasm:

He came back to training overweight by an NRL players standards. On the first day he got beat by SG Ball kids in the metrics testing.

He was given a rocket by the coach and since then he has been excellent.

I love him.

Thanks for replies on Beale. I was wondering why he wasn't in for Ricky. No disrespect to Ricky at all but I think Beale is overall slightly more skilled.

Was watching NRL360 tonight & they had the "legends" on - Toovey & Billy Moore.

Talking about Barba, Billy made the observation that the comparison between Barba this year & his Dally M year (besides the stats they showed), was his happy state of mind.

Moore reckoned he's found his home & is loving it where he is.

Geez he was awesome on Sunday.

Barba has proved his worth. I would have preferred a taller fullback but what he can do in the attack negates his size.

He has every quality you want in a fullback.

Speed, elusive, ability to read the defence and exploit it, back up players, ability to put other players in holes with some great passes, solid under the high ball and a gutsy defender.

Most of all he's super competitive and a winner.

Just read some crap in RLW of an interview from Joel Gould with David Peachey.

Seriously what has Peachey been watching in relation to Ben Barba????

He states.. " Ben's scoring tries but as a fullback, once you start stopping them, that's when you're a complete fullback and in the groove."

"The attacking flow from Benny is coming and that's fantastic from a spectator''s point of view but when we get that complete game together is when I think we have Benny back..."

"I don't think he's quite there yet......"

"With the glimpses I've seen , I still don't think his head is fully in the right place."

' The change up in gears will take a while. I think it's a gradual stepping stone for the coaches and the people around Benny to get him back to the Benny of old where every time you were coming to the fourth or fifith tackle you'd be on the edge of your seat because something exciting would be about to happen.....we're only seeing it in dribs and drabs."

Seriously WTF Peachey???????

Might be an old interview, but I think his point is Barba needs to get involved more. Like he did against the Panthers.

No it was a recent interview.

It was done at the Panthers game.

Peaches was watching the game and was approached for an interview.

That's why his comments are so weird.

That is a brilliant summation of one of my all time favourite fullbacks, from my all time favourite fullback. Might get most peoples hackles up in here but most people in here didnt like barba 12 months ago & preferred Holmes or Bird as full back.
give yourselves an upercut now clowns.

There might be some truth to it, but I'm not sure it is in the Sharks' best interests to verbalise it. Will it hep Barba's confidence to have a fellow indigenous player (and Sharks legend) criticise him? I don't think so.
