I hope he's been training during this circus.
I do accept his contract may be complicated and takes time.
It is a pity that media is so irresponsible even in regard to significant issues. Publish first and who cares if you are correct.
As for the Mole... pathetic... An ex News Ltd journ... No can't use that word with them. News Limited hack.
Goodnight.
PS I hope we do sign him. And keep Williams.

Yes Williams would be a great cover for the halves but how long can we expect him to be the "replacement". Thats pretty much been the case his whole career.

Why are ya'll losing your minds? It's Bunji marshall ffs.... He hasn't been any good for 3-4 years lol. If he signs he signs. If not, meh.. Would much rather throw cash at Matalino, Sims or Hurrell (at least he can perform on camera ;)

I've heard Matalino & Hurrell will both be at souths next year. They are also talking to Sims & Ferguson it looks like Luke has received an offer from the warriors that is hard to reject.Word also is McQueen still not happy i would be happy to take him.

Dragons stars back Benji to thrive in return

St George Illawarra players have backed Benji Marshall to thrive at the club as the Dragons prepare to finalise a formal offer for the former Wests Tigers star.
Dragons coach Steve Price, who met with Marshall last week, is understood to have asked his senior players whether he should pursue the Kiwis international, and they endorsed the move.
However, St George Illawarra officials are still manoeuvring to accommodate him under the salary cap before they can table the two-and-a-half year deal in writing. Even if he agreed immediately, it is unlikely Marshall would play this weekend.
Marshall is considering a similar offer from Cronulla but the Dragons are confident of signing him. Back-rower Bronson Harrison believes his former housemate and teammate with Wests Tigers and New Zealand would have a huge impact on the club's premiership aspirations.
"I would love to see him here, it is not too often you get to play with someone of his calibre so it would be good for the club," Harrison said.
"If he did come here, he would have to adapt to our style and put his flavour on it but, if he did that, I think we would be a very strong force. I think he would add to the side and would become more of a threat."
Harrison played alongside Marshall in the Tigers' 2005 premiership-winning team and still speaks to him regularly.
After the disappointment of the way Marshall's 12-season stint with the Tigers ended last year, he said the 29-year-old was determined to make a successful return and money would not be the deciding factor in where he played.
"After speaking to him I know how hungry he is," Harrison said. "I used to live with him so I know how much of a competitor he is and I know how intelligent he is, so I know that if he comes here there is a good opportunity for him to shine.
"We have got great medical staff, we have got a great back line and a strong, solid pack so I think that is a good environment for him to flourish.
"But, like I said, he is a smart man and when it comes to weighing up his decision he will look at all of his options. He will look at the bigger picture, it won't just be short term or a money thing."
Dragons five-eighth Gareth Widdop also welcomed the prospect of Marshall joining the club and said the pair would have no problems playing together in the halves.
‘‘As a young fellow, I played with some great players down at Melbourne so, to play with Benji – another great player – would be great too,’’ Widdop said.
"Everyone knows what he has done for rugby league. He was a great player before he left for rugby union. Everyone watches footy to watch people like Benji and, to have him back, I’m sure it is going to attract a lot more attention, which is great for rugby league."
Meanwhile, the Dragons are still in contention to sign Storm and Kiwis second-rower Kevin Proctor, who is off contract at the end of the season.
"I've told the other clubs they're still in the running," Proctor's manager Chris Orr said. "We're just waiting to hear back from Melbourne on their final position."
Orr said a final decision on where Proctor plays next year was likely to be made next Wednesday.

Dragons close in on Benji, Proctor signatures

By ADAM PENGILLY and BRAD WALTER

RUGBY LEAGUE

St George Illawarra will only have to wait a week for confirmation of a potential stunning double coup, with Kevin Proctor well and truly in their sights.
As the Red V's courtship of returning superstar Benji Marshall inches closer to a resolution, Proctor's manager Chris Orr has confirmed the New Zealand and Melbourne star is seriously considering a shift to Wollongong.

The 25-year-old met with Storm officials earlier this week and is expected to announce a decision on his future by next Wednesday.
The Roosters and Dragons have led the chase for the explosive back-rower, while the Storm can make a last-ditch play to prevent Proctor from following a trail blazed by Gareth Widdop.
"I've told the other clubs they're still in the running," Orr said. "We're just waiting to hear back from Melbourne on their final position."
Proctor's potential signing could come days after Marshall seals his comeback to rugby league.
Dragons chief executive officer Peter Doust was unavailable to comment on Tuesday but it's understood a deal is imminent.
It was left to St George Illawarra's leadership group to sing the praises of the 29-year-old after their field session at Kogarah.
Price's No 7 predicament became even more urgent after he made his fourth halfback change in just nine rounds - turning to Sam Williams in preference to Michael Witt for the clash with the Bulldogs on Sunday.
Marshall's former Tigers teammate and roommate Bronson Harrison indicated coach Steve Price had consulted the Dragons' senior players about the premiership winner before he opened negotiations.
"He asked maybe if there was interest from his side of things and Benji is not silly, he will look at all of his options," Harrison said.
"After speaking to him I know how hungry he is.
"I used to live with him and I know how much of a competitor he is, I know how intelligent he is so I know that if he comes here there is a good opportunity for him to shine.
"I think if he decides to come here it is a great environment for him to be in, we have got great medical staff, we have got a great backline and a strong, solid pack so I think that is a good environment for him to flourish."
The man Marshall will partner in the halves if he dons the Red V, Widdop, also welcomed the idea of combining with Marshall.
Widdop already linked with Witt, Williams and Adam Quinlan at the scrumbase in just eight games this year.
"As a young fellow, I played with some great players down at Melbourne so to play with Benji - another great player - would be great too," Widdop said.
"But at the moment, we have Sammy Williams, Adam Quinlan, Michael Witt, who are all good players themselves.
"It is all up in the air. We just have to move on and worry about playing football. It's all speculation but everyone knows what he has done for rugby league.
"He was a great player before he left for rugby union."

Weird that Harrison is happy with the signing, seeing as Benji would be taking his money :sarcasm:

So if Marshall signs on today will he play this weekend? Or have a stint or 2 in the Cutters first?

Excellent - When this descends into a balls up train wreck
We will see the demise of both Doust and Price.

No matter how many names we might have in the backline,
it can't function without a good pack of forwards.
One who is led by a brutal overpowering dictator - which we have none last game I stood up and saw live. v Roosters - again slapped around like a b*t$h

Take a look at the Broncos - they are a fine example of how to spend under the salary cap.

We chuck or money at flash in the pan has-beens who clearly are after money only.
If that wasn't the fact the sharks would of been the perfect choice.

Another season wasted when its barely a third old.
Onya boys you do good things.

So just to be clear, you do or don't want the Dragons to sign Marshal?

Mate this is an opportunistic signing...Ideally yes we'd have two mongrel forwards incoming but Benji is available now and to call him a flash in the pan has been is just...silly. Two years ago it was neck and neck b/w him and thursten...he is only 29...he will bring punters through the gates and be a lot better than what we have...where is the danger of it falling into a heap? Some people carry on like Benji is a fkn war criminal...

The more attacking threats we have the more the defence spreads which helps the forwards. Hope marshall will b3 another for us

I believe that his downturn in form at the Tigers and his failed rugby stint (by his own admission) means he has the desire to re establish his reputation in the sporting arena. If he is to sign with us the overall benefits of a hungry Benji Marshall will be awesome for our team
