The worst-kept secret around town has become fact with Benji Marshall signing for the Telecom Warriors.
Unwanted at the Auckland Blues and reluctant to return to play in Sydney or relocate to Britain, Marshall is understood to have agreed to terms with the Auckland based NRL club.
A proven match winner Marshall is understood to be excited at the prospect of playing alongside many of his Kiwi teammates.
The Warriors have shown they can foot it with the best said Marshall. My job will be to bring a bit of stability to the mix.
Warrior co-owners Owen Glenn and Eric Watson are understood to be returning to Auckland for the official announcement which will be held at Eden Park on Friday.
Meanwhile Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah said that this was a great opportunity for the club. Usually we have to go overseas to chase players. This time one has landed on our doorstep. We will be celebrating the signing of Benji by releasing three new commemorative jerseys. One in white, one in blue and one in black. A must for every true supporter. It is understood the jerseys will feature a script saying Eden Park home of the Warriors though Mr Scurrah would not confirm this.
Warriors coach Matt Elliott said that he was excited at the prospect of having Marshall in the team. You cant have too many halves in the team he said. We played three last Saturday and look how that went.
Further details will be published in Wednesdays Sports Roundup.
