Yappy spot on also to add to this you have incentives for Rep and Finals duties (in which all Finals earnings are actually added onto the season following cap)

We need to upgrade his contract now! not wait till his contract expires if we back date the deal to this season it does in the long term all around help out the club!

Sounds good to me.If they can get him signed for anything in between $150k-$200k over the the next 3 seasons,it`s a bargain!

he is the face of the joint venture--attracks media coverage, which in turn attracts sponsors. Also attracts the young fan base. This all adds up to A MUST SIGNING.
I work with people who have never been to a game-but the know who benji is.
Just like junior pearce was the face of rugby league for a decade-this kid could be the next one-who knows
The jury is still out,on weather he will be the johns or fittler of the future -but one things for certain,he has the skills, kick, step, catch and pass.
I think the wests tigers need him and the nrl need the west tigers to be a force,to sure up the south west of sydney.Maybe some of that special money that the likes of fittler gets (wizard)could go to retaining benji--signing any player is risky stuff,a knee injury could negate his step and bring him back to the field--but as a long time supporter,it is a risk worth taking--offer what ever it takes and build a team around him-with success-our grounds will not be bigger enough

Look we need to keep him not just for the performances on the field but because he does draw crowds and he is getting huge exposure for the Wests Tigers!

Sure he is only a kid but what we do have to realise is what exactly is he doing for the Wests Tigers on all avenues!

A smart person would upgrade his contract for this year and next year (considering he has already recieved close to half this years contract already it really wouldn't be too hard) and then offer something competitive for another 3yrs after that

I would over the 5years offer him below

2004 $100k
2005 $130k
2006 $200k
2007 $200k
2008 $200k

That works out to about $830k now around that would be what I would do because if we do go dramatically up in a few seasons time what we also need to remember is it also takes money away from what we could spend on other players!
The first time I agree and so to does the Wests Tigers management. That is a very rough guide and a good guess of what has been put in front of him.
But unfortunately his manager has stated that they will only extend his contract at best, 1 year on top of his current contract which will see him signed possibly if he agree's to the end of 2006.
But anyway I have been told that WT will find out late this Saturday arvo!

P.S.....WT management has told his manager that if he signs,he will also be back payed a more than generous increase from when he first made his NRL debut.(against Newcastle)
Otherwise it is pointless BACK paying him him extra $$$$ if he does not stay.

1yr is better than nothing at all, really that works out to be another 2yrs on top of this season so thats not really as bad as it would seem - The Wests Tigers will agree to those terms no need to worry about that!

See that would be the smart thing to do especially given that if he recieves Back pay it will come out of this years cap which we still have plenty of room to move with! The Wests Tigers will do nearly anything to keep the kid he really is the least of my worries

I am more worried about Skando and Bronson agreeing to terms before june 30 deadline to be honest!

If you guys would like I can find out answers to your questions??
Say on a fortnightly basis, and providing they are reasonably decent questions.Because when I tried doing this on another forum, they asked me to ask silly questions, like how much weight has Benji put on?? etc...etc... It's a little embarrasing!

Look,I will just say this for now! I just made a phone call and
Bronson is signed till the end of 05' this is now official.
Skando and Bryce Gibbs have the same player manager and he has just come off the plane from England. So negotiations are commencing as of next tuesday.
We are confident Skando is going nowhere!

P.S....I have just been told by my source "MAX,this is the third time you have called me in as many days."
So judging by that I will not be contacting him for a little while!! #-o
Sorry Guys. :(

Bronson signed till 2005 is very good news, Next to sign up is Skando but I have no doubts about him staying with the Wests Tigers!

Why is Bronson only signed for one extra year?? Is it because he thinks he can get a big rise the folowing year?

I don't think player managers like having young players signed up for too long when they're about to come on the scene.

Great news on Bronson. :D

Sounds like he's backing himself to earn a payrise yeah.

Theres a positive for the club in that it'll spur him to play as well as possible but I admit I'd feel a lot better if it was a longer contract

I could'nt believe it,but I cringed as I made another phone call today!!!
I was expecting the voice on the other end to say "MAX,GET F*CKED" but thankfully he did'nt.
But he recognised my Phone Number as it showed up on his mobile and answered
"Hi Max,Benji has'nt signed yet"
But what my source did say is that Benji's player manager was hoping that his client would receive a slightly higher back pay for Benji.
WT management then replied"If we were to increase that amount, would he sign to the end of 07' Instead of the end of 06"
His manager then replied"We will get back to you soon"

Now as you can understand folk's this is a tedious process and is a bit of a hagling game. So if I dont get back to you immediately it's not that Im keeping info from you,but because I dont want to bust his chops anymore than I already have by ringing him 4 days consecutively.
Besides he said they are leaving for Christchurch on tuesday and that they will have a quick meet with Bryce's and Skando's manager as a preliminary disscussion before they fly.

i think a lot of the young guns want short term contracts--because if a couple of new teams arrive in 2006,they see pots of gold--the old supply and demand thing.I think you will find its starting to push their prices up already--Risky buissness--but i do think we could afford to loose a couple--because i think their are plenty comming through the system--but Benji because he is the future and Skando because he is the soul of the jv--are MUST SIGNINGS
