Each team didn't realise that the opposition had players on their respective sides, that were throwing the game.

Bennett has never liked golden point, even when his side wins them, why should he change his opinion on them? I haven't seen the interview yet, but if that is the only problem, so? I say again he has always been very vocal against golden point.

Agree.

At least he is consistent with his view on Golden Point. It's not like it is a new rule though, both sides should know exactly how to play those conditions now (eg catch the kickoff) and the better side won it

I agree with what Wayne is trying to say. The media are just trying to get something controversial out of him and he wants them to focus on the great game that it actually was. And he's right. The media are just being their usual merkin selves.

And I agree with him about golden point. Not about replays though.

It's hardly being 'butthurt' when it's something he said when golden point was first introduced and has continued saying it every time it has come up in the years since (whether his team wins or loses). I guarantee he would have spoken out about it again if Broncos had won it tonightl, albeit probably not the exact same wording.

In saying that, I do disagree (as I'm sure most will) with his comment of leaving it a draw and having a replay the next week. That's obviously not practical for a lot of different reasons.

However, it needs to be changed to preferably a designated period of extra time. 5 each way? 10 each way? With a golden try at the end of it if it's still even. Or at the very least, scrap the golden point that they currently have and make it golden try.

That's how it was and how it should be.

80 minutes and still tied - Extra 20 minutes with 10 each way - Golden point.

There are arguments over golden point vs golden try. Me personally, I think that if a field goal can win you a game in the 80th minute or the 100th minute, it can win it for you in the 101st minute.

We could always go down this path as the rah rahs...

In rugby union, five players take kicks on goal from the centre of the 22-metre line. If the scores are level after five players from each team have kicked, the shootout goes to sudden death.

Benny is right about golden point, always has been and always will be rubbish . . . should be draws in the regular season and 10 minutes each way to finalise the lottery

Give it away grumpy old man, the game has passed you by. You don't have the whole QLD origin team now and you can't win.

I agree with Bennett but nothing will change. There is nothing wrong with a draw in the regular season - if both teams deserve a point, they should get it. The competition is that close.

Anyone see the Broncs press conference? Bennet seemed extra butthurt whereas Hodges held his head up well.

I don't get how anyone would be OK with s draw and come back a week later. That's the pay off right there! It adds to the drama of the story. Who would want to go home without seeing a game resolved itself. You go there for a result! I could see perhaps making it golden try where the first try wins. But I loved it. A draw would be anti climactic. Even if it means one team loses by a field goal after leading most of the game.

Broncos should have never shutup shop. They got punished end of story.

The media and fans, plenty of people saying Bennett is a sook. He's not. He's held that opinion from day dot and so do I. I'm certain he would've said it if they'd won.

The AFL have draws during the year but don't allow them in the finals, and that's what we should do. We copied their finals structure, it's not a big leap to copy this as well. Doesn't have to be a GF replay, just 10 mins each way or whatever it needs.

Wow there's some weird stuff in this thread.

Odd taking Bennett to task for the second half tactics when they were basically 99.99999999999% correct. The Cowboys scored with no time on the clock and off some freakish play by a couple of players - a ball and all tackle at any time during that movement and Bennett is hailed as a genius.

I've never liked Golden Point, in the normal round robin a draw should be a draw because that's what 80 minutes of the game produces. In play off matches they should at least have 10 minutes each way before going to Golden Point.

We re-adopted an earlier finals format rather than copying the AFL.
AFL is more inconsistent on the draw.. draws in regular season, no draws in finals , except for the grand final.
