The split thing isn't always the case though. It relies on the idea that the ball is in the centre of the field all the time, it's not. Hence there is still a dominant receiver, the halfback.

of course work to the post but need to have options left and right. You also have winger, Centre, 2nd rower on both sides. If you move that order too soon the opposition know and move so to match.

It is why teams like a ball playing fullback now come into the line and create the overlap. It is the main reason I don't think he wants to move Moylan. Results will show if it is a right or wrong decision

You are talking about attacking structure which all teams have to some degree, it doesn't mean the halves are locked in those spots though, most coaches don't force their halves to stay on one side anymore, it was popular for a couple years when every team was trying to be Melbourne and just run set block plays whenever they had the ball. Watching games now most if not all halves will follow the ball. When the ball gets to certain spots on the field they will set up for their set plays(except us because we have none) but as often as not both halves will be on the same side of the ruck.

The halfback does. Rarely both do for the simple reason not to miss an opportunity on the other side. Teams work to the posts then go to the left or right depends on the opposition. Tired players etc.

If both are on the left say. It means the right side can't be attacked if it is short. We can work with Moylan at 6 but need to change the whole structure It is why I can see why he won't get moved mid season. We do need to decide long term and train accordingly over the off season

I can see the value in this from a coaching perspective and respect it. With the year being salvageable I can see not wanting to mess around but now we need it regardless due to injury and Mansour coming back.

TMM/Cleary were our halves in the pre season we wasted those 3 months if we now add a 3rd 5/8th to the team. We scored 5 tries last week with Latu at 5/8th so that will see Moylan stay FB. TMM wasn't too bad now with the rest of the team in form now he should be even better.

I wouldn't argue with TMM coming back. I'm going on the assumption he'll be in reserve grade until we find out differently.

So literally you would have Latu at 5/8 rather than try Moylan there? Really?

Latu couldn't defend there for even 40 mins let alone 80 so no. My point was Moylan at fullback will work no matter who is in the 6. I would take CHN, TMM or hell Edwards was even a half in juniors. Peachey is needed to cover elsewhere

I don't see the point in trying out random fill ins. Either put Moylan or TMM there. We have enough depth to cover the backs full time.

Moylan at 1 and Edwards at 6 sounds like a Griffin style solution. Weakens 2 positions. Relies on other positions to do the basics for them.

If TMM isnt picked that is probably what would happen. But I honestly think TMM will be back. Whether his teammates want him there or not.

I would choose TMM but if he isn't going to play. Moylan won't get moved better someone that can actually offer something to the team

If Sauce continues as if he was never out (which he will) and the current combination keeps up (likely) then hopefully Griffin has the confidence to put Cartwright at lock for his minutes and Merrin in the front row for the majority of his, and that's the final piece of the puzzle.

Peachey, Bryce, Latu and another prop seems to be the ideal bench.

I've got no issue with what Browne is doing at the moment off the bench. He's solid if not spectacular.

Likewise. Happy with his defence in the middle.

And does anyone know if Akauola got put on report for that hit in reggies yesterday? It was the one that was off the ball. Looked bad from where I was sitting. He might not be available for selection after that.

I don't think so, not long term. RCG and Tamou together don't offer enough, and if they and Merrin start it's going to look like that for the first 25 mins. Up against Prior/Fifita/Gallen, Vaughn/Packer/JDB and Bromwich/McLean/Finucane. We need more.

RCG I like but Tamou isn't really giving much.

RCG has shown more aggression in the last month than i thought he was capable of. He was involved in some huge contact yesterday and went back for more. I think our bench is Latu, Peachey, Cartwright and Kikau long term. Huge versatility and impact.
