That "catchy crap" was the best of 50s rock'n'roll, soul and blues mixed together to be better than the sum of it's parts. The early Beatles work is really underappreciated.

There is an efficiency and directness to the music and the songs that is awesome.

They could put an album together in a few days on pure passion and energy (and drugs).

Did I just hear Metallica in a discussion about the best band ever? Please...haven't they just written one song and played it over and over again?

The Beatles by a mile. How can someone say the Beatles weren't skilled musicians? George Harrison wrote some of the most beautiful Beatles songs of all time. Lennon and McCartney wrote some of the best songs ever.

They were also able to write and record albums so quickly, it was about one a year. Imagine someone doing that now! Every band in the past 40 years probably owes something to the Beatles.

Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys said Pet Sounds, which is one of the best bands of all time, was inspired by Revolver. Nirvana's About a Girl is pretty much just a Beatles song.

Do you mean the sum of its parts? Hmmm ... efficiency and directness sounds like a euphomism for shoddy and simple.

Actually, I'm being a bit harsh, I just find it laughable that you attack me for having an opinion that happens to differ from yours. Of course, I'm right as usual but hey, sh*t happens.

Metallica? I mean, early Metallica was very good but ... Metallica?

Will people stop mentioning Nirvana? They really were crap.

Well I don't think Sting's done anything interesting in 20 years, but there you go...

*cough*

Now THAT is the most ridiculous thing I've read this week ...

And why is that? Are you proclaiming that you must be right and I must be wrong? Funny that, because I'm yet to see a definition of what 'best band' means from the person who started this thread. It could potentially mean any number of things so to say The Beatles are the best band ever without any qualifying factors on what the 'thread starter' was looking for is ludicrous.

Sorry if I insulted you by daring to criticise The Beatles. How dare I!

didn't insult me at all.

The question is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned and by the majority of reply's in here the same goes
for almost everyone else.

The Beatles then daylight.
