Best Horror Movies pre-2000

Okay, heres a random one.

I don't know what it's called, and my description will be somewhat comical.
I don't remember if this is a movie, or just an episode of Tales from the Crypt or Darkside.
I suspect it's a movie

In any case, there's a person, or entity whose killing folk it ends when something happens to them, either they get burnt or melted down except its a false finish cause it gets back up, but it's little now, it looked like a small creature, almost like the skeleton from Tales from the Crypt and it chases someone (i think a lady?) around a house, or at least down a corridor, and they end up capturing it in a wooden box

A very vague description, but I'll give out 10 kudos to anyone who can name me what fits that bill
Is this the one Shaun?

Yes omg! You found it!
Not exactly how I remember it, but I would have seen it about 30 years ago
That's the one I was thinking of for sure!

Glad I could help mate. Horror movies are kind of my forte. I grew up watching every horror movie and TV series that came down the pipe as well as having a complete run of Fangoria magazines. As soon as I read your description I knew exactly what you were talking about. I saw it as a kid in the 70s and that doll freaked me the F out. You'll be glad to know it's easily available on DVD if you're keen to revisit it. If you have any other horror movie questions don't hesitate to ask.

I'm definately getting it! I've seen they've also done a Trilogy of Terror II which is available, is that worth a watch?

I have another vague memory of a movie that I wouldn't mind re-visitng. It's set in an underground science lab. They have an alien specimen which somehow gets lose, or causes havok. I want to say theres scenes of cacoons on the walls but that may be wrong. Effectively these scientists are trying to survive, while also preventing this organism from reaching ground level.

Pretty sure it would have been a 70's, or potentially early 80's film

The 2nd one is nowhere near as good as the first (mostly because the actress whos in all 3 stories isn't as good as Karen Black). One of the stories does have the Zuni doll in it again so it's worth checking out just for that. As for the other film I think that sounds like it might be Inseminoid (1981)

You've only gone and bloody done it again!
I watched the trailer, and that fits what I remember!

Poltergeist was great but my preference is for Poltergeist 2 primarily because it had Will Sampson in it. I was always a huge fan of his due to One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest and Outlaw Josey Wales.

Going to a Nightmare on Elm St marathon next month for the first 7 films, starting at 8.30pm and finishing up with New Nightmare by around 9.35am.

I'm going with my horror-loving mate whose stag do in GC we'll be at on the weekend prior, so managing to stay awake going to be all the more challenging recovering from that, let alone the fact we are in our 40s so staying up beyond midnight is a hell of a feat hah!

Should be fun though, wonder if the staff will try pulling any shenanigans on people that do nod off during proceedings

Also wondering how my lower back and tender posterior will handle being in cinema seats for that long...

Probably need to get the yoga stretches going during the credits/pissbrea between each screening - oh well, that's future me problems hah!

If I was in NZ I would definitely go to that. Never as big a fan of Freddy like Jason or Michael but they are still great movies featuring some pretty inventive kills.
