The problem with most rap/hip-hop these days IMHO is that its all candy covered, over produced, over commercialised mainstream trollop! I read somewhere that somebody called Eminem "The Madonna Of Hip-hop" and I think that person has got it covered. He is a poster boy for commercial rap and thus anyone affiiated with him gets a chance. Folks on here bagging 50 Cent should be congratulated.
I'm also glad that Gay...whoops, I mean Jay-Z retired (from what I dont know). All his albums sound the same and he only got some sort of profile after people found out he was dating Beyonce thunderthighs from Destinys Ho...
There is quality stuff out there these days but it goes largely nnoticed. I personally have always been very fond of the hip-hop that falls into the "alternative" scene.... a la Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Cypress Hill, Lordz Of Brooklyn, House Of Pain etc.
As for my rap album of the year...well, I think the closest i could get is "Haunted Cities" by The Transplants.
