The problem with most rap/hip-hop these days IMHO is that its all candy covered, over produced, over commercialised mainstream trollop! I read somewhere that somebody called Eminem "The Madonna Of Hip-hop" and I think that person has got it covered. He is a poster boy for commercial rap and thus anyone affiiated with him gets a chance. Folks on here bagging 50 Cent should be congratulated.

I'm also glad that Gay...whoops, I mean Jay-Z retired (from what I dont know). All his albums sound the same and he only got some sort of profile after people found out he was dating Beyonce thunderthighs from Destinys Ho...

There is quality stuff out there these days but it goes largely nnoticed. I personally have always been very fond of the hip-hop that falls into the "alternative" scene.... a la Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Cypress Hill, Lordz Of Brooklyn, House Of Pain etc.

As for my rap album of the year...well, I think the closest i could get is "Haunted Cities" by The Transplants.

Most rappers are criminals and should be in jail.

What have the Black Eyed Peas and Mark Riddell got in common?
They were good before they sold out

Must agree on the first point....I always though Riddell was good. I own "Bridging The Gap" and I really still like it...it was only when they did Elephunk that they became known but...mainky cos they started working with that lollipoper Timberlake. I watched them @ BDO last year and I was hanging for em to drop an old song and theyb did a verse and a chorus of "Weekend" then stopped. Disappointing.

umm. you're really overstating this issue, but really how is rap any different from rock in this respect?

the production of most mainstream rap and rock is fairly awful btw

Aiit I'm here to kick some knowledge...

these are the best albums of 2005 thus far

Common - Be. Excellent from start to finish..and refreshing (make sure yall try and downoad the bonus disc, got some tight remixes on it and extra tracks)

Game - Documentary..West Coast is back in a major way...showed his consistency with the "you know what it is vol 3" Mixtape he put out with DJ Ski & Nu Jerzey Devil. Rips 50 and G Unit a new asshole from start to finish. 300 Bars n runnin is just whoa.

Do or Die - D.O.D Majorly slept on album from the most underrated hip hop group of all time. A few bangers from Kanye on there as well as the legendary Traxter.

Mike Jones - Who Is Mike Jones? The constant shoutin of his own name is infectious after a while. MIKE JOOOOOOONES MIKE JOOOOOONES!!!! This dude so real he use his real name and constantly spits out "281 330 8004 thats my cell phone number hit me up on the low." I dont doubt that either. Mike, Slim Thug Paul Wall, Swisha house is the sh*t and Houston is so hot right now....this album is off the chains from start to finish. The limited edition version with the 2nd disc has a lotta screwed remixes too if u into that buzz...

Krayzie Bone - Gemini Good Vs Evil
A great album from Krayzie..Mr Consistency. This album is a lil short by his standards but its straight fire. Ask the boy Holc.

Daz Dillinger - The Dogg Pound Gangsta LP
This is a great album. Very slept on but it's straight G Funk.Probably his best effort since his debut album.."Ambitionz as a ridah 2005" is worth getting this album alone.

Cormega - The Testament
Most of this album was recorded in the mid ninties after Mega got outta jail...But Def Jam f**ked him around n sh*t...anyway the album was finally able to be released this year...Best album to come outta the East Coast this year.

Crappest - Snoops..& 50's.

Im highly anticipating:
Slim Thug N Kanye's new albums

About time Digga, what took you so long man. I picked up the Common cd on your recommendation and it hasn't disappointed. Also keenly awaiting the new Kanye set to drop, as well as ODB's, which is surely due anyday now. Please.

Hey bro..Yeah half had to alert me to the existance of this thread. Aint been in this forum in a minute. But yeah cuz...Kanye's Late Registration should leak anytime within the next six or so weeks. That Diamonds for Sierra Leone track is some crazy sh*t. And the Video clip iwith the Legendary Hype Williams directing is amazingly tight. I'm loving Kanye's video clips.

ODB's...Can this album save Dame Dash...lol. It should be some tight sh*t tho. Lotta ideas float around a persons head in jail.

Snoops album I liked a bit at first..But it lost replay value very quickly.

Maybe they need to smile once in a while. 99% of rap film clips are all the same..the rapper with his posse acting tough, looking mean, often rapping about crime..sometimes bragging about being a criminal, all with s**tty girls in bikinis dancing in the background.

The only rapper I have seen that smiles is Will Smith.
