I'm starting to think maybe the Team should be named after any of the many natural disasters that hits PNG from time to time.
Maybe won't be popular but the Rabaul Gurias in the Digicel Cup is named after Earthquakes because their volcanic island constantly has earthquakes and the odd volcanic eruption.

So maybe;
PNG Cyclones
PNG Tsunamis
PNG King Tides
PNG Frost
PNG Landslide
PNG Drought
PNG Floods
PNG Fire

PnG Frost feels like an oxymoron, any away team visiting, will not think of png as frosty, especially with the humidity

PNG Defenders

Triple meaning
- RL defense line
- WW2 line against the Japanese
- current line against an unnamed rival to the north.

then take this image and give it a bit of a Proven-Summons vibe as the centre of the bradge

If the point of this exercise is to inspire a familial alliance, it is a good platform to put a proud bit of png history infront of every PNG citizen and make them love it as part of their national self image

Give the logo a general military feel to really weave the patriotism in with the Australian alliance

Maybe PNG doesn't frame it's identity through lens of Australia?!

no, but:

a) every nation frames itself through a major war/conflict and PNG only really has one.

B) when you pay $600mil, i imagine you would get a bit of a say in branding. This would be to the benefit of the aus-png aliance to create a new self-image as guardians of Australian.

it is hardly an insult, it is literally framing them as a semi-parental figure “taking care” of the Australians. And that is not exactly a bad idea to promote

I also think pippen means we shouldn't be involved in naming their team, they finally have their own team, let's give them something they are themselves proud of... if its pirates, defenders, scorpions, etc then so be it

I don't know if your first point is true. I don't know if certain tribes in PNG assisting Aussie soldiers is important to the national identity of PNG. There's hundreds of different tribal groups in PNG and the country did seek and successfully gain independence from us.

Giving somebody a gift, but telling them what to do with it is not the best way to gain respect and trust. Probably the reason why condition related to China shouldn't have been part of deal either.

The captain can be nicknamed Mr.Lava Lava, and have Shaggy's Mr.Boombastic as his theme song as he runs out.

I would challenge you to find a single country that doesnt have some great war at the centre of their national story. War is the core reason for the state/government; everything else is an extra.

PNG is still in the process of nation-building so their story is still being cemented. Picking that actions of a small group to represent the whole is normal, it is pre-history of the state (a state cant act before it exists but the elements going into its creation are all there for hundreds of years before its founding. How many defenders did the spanish have in Asturias in the 700s)

the bravery of a small group who did it just because “it was the right thing to do” is a great national story

not suggesting the Aus gov announces it now with the PNG pm in cuffs and a gag.

but Aus could suggest it and PNG have a big reason to see this as a major moment for nation building (which means they should think carefully about the metaphor they want their people to connect with.
