Thunder just need a decent spearhead, and maybe a good finisher with the bat. If Cummins hadn't been called up to Aus they'd have done better...they need a Behrendorff, a quality bowler who will fly under the international radar.

Need more batsmen, Their bowling attack at their best is Hauritz, Sandhu, Cummins, Kallis. You can't win many games when hacks like Daniel Hughes and Fatty Cosgrove get games.

No lights or corporate facilities and a capacity that would be bulging at about 10,000.

Spend some coin on it and it'd be a decent venue though.

I'm certain it has lights? Image below certainly agrees and Austadiums also credits it with lights. Haven't personally even driven past it in about 400 years though.... Also says capacity is 20k (which, yeah, dubious). But it's certainly the equal of Manuka Oval IMO

If it does have lights it's bee worth a game IMO...see how it goes...

Kallis, Hussey, Blizzard...should be enough, really. Probably a decent keeper batsman to make it four very good batsmen, maybe a big hitter down the order somewhere too, and the rest can bat around

It is absolutely nowhere in the same stratosphere as Manuka Oval.

The 20,000 capacity hasn't been tested in 30 years when OHS didn't exist and the lights are suburban oval standard.

I walked past it three days ago. It's a suburban club ground.

Fair enough, as I said I haven't been in many many years. It's a shame it's fallen to that level....

I would be targetting Joel Paris (WA). Won't get a run with the Scorchers, good left arm quick. Then at LEAST 1 batsman, possibly a Rob Quiney type, maybe David Hussey short term. Probably need an all rounder in there somewhere ideally. I would play Doran as the keeper so there is an extra bat straight away, Hartley is rubbish in this form.

Don't get me wrong, I think No. 1 is the best option for Newcastle. All it would need is one new stand with seating for a few thousand coupled with corporate facilities, an ICC standard pavillion for players and officials, a broadcast booth and floodlights. Then extend the grass bank for more people and bring in temporary facilities for those sitting on the grass for game day.

Cricket grounds aren't like footy stadiums. It isn't a $100 million dollar project, it's a $20 million dollar project. Now would be the time to strike with the state government having a billion dollar fund active for sport and cultural assets.

What the people who put the Newcastle bid in with Hunter Stadium as their option forgot about were the Newcastle Jets. They play all summer, and you cant just pull the deck in and out of the ground on a whim. So even if you could modify the stadium so it's like the grounds in New Zealand where the sideline seats can be ripped out to make it oval-ish, the pitch would be destroyed by the A-League.

Hope Hussey continues next year with the Thunder. Kallis will be back for one more year, so a strong platform

Kallis
Morgan
Hussey
Blizzard

That top 4 competes with any other top 4 in the comp. Should have a fit Khawaja back as well. Delport looks promising if he plays the whole tournament. So Thunders batting, provided all fit and available is one of the better batting sides IMO. Need to drop Cosgrove, Hughes, Beadle and McDonald from the squad and purchase some bowlers

Bowling is the problem next year

Sandhu/Cummins could be lost a lot to test and or ODIs next year. So Thunder really need to get some decent bowling depth. I think Lalor will get better. Dirk Nannes needs to step up, though he is getting on now. But we need to add one or two decent bowlers to the roster. Love to see Jack Reed with the Thunder

That's been the problem with the Thunder for a while.

They have at least 1 or 2 consistent bowlers and the rest are inexperienced, injured or just don't have it in T20.

I would've thought at the start theyd have a decent bowling attack with Cummins, Sandhu, Nannes, Kallis, but unfortunately injuries and Australian duties didn't help them.

I also remember a couple of years ago they had signed Cummins and Copeland but both were injured for the whole season.

Look they've had a better season than previous years so I hope they can only get better.

Batting is good if you have Blizzard, Morgan, Hussey and Kallis firing.

Nannes was meant to be the spearhead but age has got him. He was dropped from the last game too.
