I'm a fan, and i like a mix of music so there's a bit of all sorts I like there. A friend told me most of these about 2 weeks ago whos "In the know", had no idea wether to believe him.

Muse, Finger, Grinners, Groove Armada, Calvin Harris, Karnivool, Mars Volta ... Nice Stuff.

I've Heard Rumours from this person I know in amongst the entertainment industry that (which I know can't really be trusted and i'm not going to claim how good it is as i dunno) that the second announcement is going to consist of most of if not all of the following: Kid Cudi, The Used, 311, Alice in Chains, Arctic Monkeys, Gwar, Wilco, Busta Rhymes, NOFX.

Wouldn't have a clue if it's true but would be cool I Reckon!

NOFX are out here now and tour in jan and feb already in europe i think, alice in chains were here this year, so i doubt it though they just released a new album....arctic monkeys played this year, the used are here in november.

311 would be cool though and same with gwar

I love these threads, i wonder if the "worst line up ever" brigade are made up of the same people that say it every single year the line up is announced.

It will depend on who is in the 2nd announcement if i go or just look at sideshows.

ACDC are still rumoured to be the main act to be announced later

I was surprised at how well Neil Young went last year, wasn't looking forward to him but he really surprised

Are you f*cking kidding?

Neil Young went harder than anyone else and easily the best performance of the entire day.

Hey don't get me wrong I watched him and enjoyed his set immensely.

But there would have been lucky to be more than 1000 people in the main arena watching him in Sydney. The "D" was half full, and the rest of the stadium was empty.

Big mistake putting him on as a headline and putting the prodigy in the boiler room.

2010 is without doubt the sh*ttiest BDO line up ever, it seems that every year the price goes up but the quality consistently gets poorer.

Powderfinger are the #2 headline band? Please.

Actually I'd say Lily Allen is the 2nd headline, and will be 2nd last performance without doubt.

All people do is whinge, whinge and f**king whinge every time BDO releases their line up, but honestly, try and see 3 of the headline acts sideshows and see if you can do it for the cost of a BDO ticket.

Falls > BDO.

In your opinion.

In mine there is only 1 bloke in their line up I would pay to see, and even then I don't see much point in seeing that person live (Moby)

the big day out has sucked for many years. It used to be a great showcase of the best independant and alternative music from Australia and overseas. It got big, and drifted towards the mediocre centre.....

Awesome lineup, about 15 bands i enjoyed, only 65 dollars, and f**k all electro plus the same day as Parklife, which gets rid of most of the dickhead element of a festival crowd.

Possibly the wisest comment ever written on these forums

Name me one year where the headline act was not a Top 40 band...

f**king sick line-up already...

This first announcement is better than the last couple of BDOs combined.

2007, Tool

apart from that they are pretty much top 40 stuff

What are you talking about??

They are a grammy award winning, top 40 band. All of their albums were successful on the charts, and most included multiple hit singles.

They are no less commercial than RATM or Marylin Manson

:EDIT: Just so we are clear, I am not listing this as a bad trait. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an international success. I am simply pointing out that every headline act of Big Day Out has always been a commercially successful band with multiple albums and singles in the charts.

The old Sydney Showground BDO's before it got big and embraced the mainstream, I think it was 1996 - Porno for Pyros headlined.

Following year - Soundgarden but that was when it started to go sh*t, ie offspring.

I think I even remember one where Ministry where up last in the main arena.....maybe 1995.

And Danish, I am not talking anout commercial success either. I am referring to musically a tendancy to embrace the more mainstream sounds. Case in point next year - Lilly Allen. Eskimo Joe. Boring, mundane rubbish.

Great idea.

Was the only douchebag free zone all day.

90% of Australia's Southern Cross tattoo's where in the boiler room.

BDO site disagrees - Powderfinger listed as #2.

Because every year it gets even worse.

Compare BDO '10 to BDO 92-96. It's a no contest.

Tool are "Top 40"?

Are you on the piss?

I've never heard a Tool song on any commercial radio station. Maybe Lateralus would get an 11:30 slot on Triple M five years ago.

"Top 40" and musical success are two different things.
