Big Day Out 2013

Body Count muthaf**kkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaa!
I was in the front row on the right stage for the entire day, but sadly Body Count was left stage. If I remember correctly Ice-T did a set by himself, and then one with Body Count. I think.

I did get smashed across the arms with a flying guitar at the end of Live. People were throwing mud and shit everywhere and Live's guitarist took a rock to the hand which apparently required stitches. Set ends and the guy just hurls his guitar across the stage and into the crowd barrier.

Meh. I'm not paying $165 to just see RHCP. I'll just settle for Harvest, TLE, Weezer and probably Soundwave.

Big Day out lineups tend to get better with age (take a look at the 2011 line up and see how many awesome alternative bands they had playing there that have now got more traction), so I'm sure this one will be no different.

RHCP are over the hill, but still worth seeing. 4-5 other acts I'm keen to see so I'll be in attendance. I ended up not going last year because all my idiot mates wanted to go see old f**k acts at Soundwave (who all bar SOAD stank) instead of current day acts at BDO and I'm still pissed about it so wont be making the same mistake twice.

As for sideshows, the BDO promoters have already said not to hold your breath for sideshows as they won't be putting many on. I guess they don't see a point in cannibalising the festival's ticket sales?

I assume that they'll announce some after the festivals have sold out though. At the very least you'd think Sydney will get some sideshows given the festival sells out every year here

Danish is exactly right about the whole ageing point.

Look at last year, I remember a few on here scratching their head over Foster The People. Now they're one of the bigger 'alternative' (if that's even the right genre) bands out there and you couldn't escape Pumped Up Kicks over the Summer.

Seems to happen every year.

This line up is pretty fantastic to me.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers are real headliners that everyone has to see. Yeah, their latest stuff has been ordinary but they're still able to rock a set unlike most other bands. Perfect band for the BDO line up.

Killers hold some real sentimental value for me as they're the band who got me into chasing after discographies and appreciating the music. Good entry level band who have improved tremendously live.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs + Vampire Weekend are two of the bigger alternative acts going and I've yet to see either live. Really like both bands and think Vampire Weekend are perfect for the BDO in that Summer type atmosphere.

Then there's Foals, Animal Collective, Sleigh Bells & Crystal Castles who pad the day out nicely.

To be honest, this was the exact line-up I was after from BDO. No more Hilltop Hoods acts to pad an otherwise solid line-up, no, this year it's basically all thriller.

Just a matter of selling some mates on it.

I like alot of the alternative stuff, I've always wanted to see RHCP & Killers as I have always missed them and I don't mind a bit of hip hop, Childish Gambino and B.o.B will be good, especially B.o.B, yeah he has his 2day shit but he plays alot of his mix tape stuff at his live show (which I saw in 09) and he was the best hip hop show I have ever seen.

Last year I was on the verge of going, but needed that one big name to justify it.... (I had tickets to Soundgarden and Kasabian sideshows).

This year very much not interested.
