PJ
Blur
Tame Impala
Flume
Naked & Famous

Enough for me!

Second announcemnt still to come!

There's usually another 2-3 good acts on there as well.

If I can see at least 6 good acts, that's ticket paid.

My festival buddies have already put the kybosh on Big Day Out immediately after seeing that line up.

I don't care for Pearl Jam, and Snoop's surprise performance at Good Vibes 2007 was enough for me. Blur I would really like to see but unfortunately that isn't enough for the rest of my friends.

Stupid old f**ks have lost the ability to just enjoy a festival without worrying so much about who is playing

Soundwave rumoured line up looks pretty damned average as well for 2014 as well. Might be my first festival-free summer since I was 15 :(

Didn't have to worry about who was playing in the 90s because they always had good line-ups and tix were cheaper.

Not too happy about PJ headlining...means there probably won't be any Aus tour and I'll have to jostle with sweaty, shirtless idiots to see my favourite band.

I'm hoping for a sideshow

Well Adam Zammit, CEO of BDO just replied to me on Twitter saying PJ doesn't do sideshows. That's a shame.

Oh get f**ked I'll be pissed if Pearl Jam aren't going to do a tour.

This will piss me off greatly. I wont see them at a festival. Not my thing, too many tards there for the piss, pussy and drugs. I dont do my music that way.

I would like to think that Zammit is well off. Why would he say "Pearl Jam are doing their own tour, dont bother buying a ticket to BDO"?

Its a shame I wont be seeing PJ in the near future if Zammit is in fact correct.

3 Sydney shows in 2003, 3 in 2006 plus a Newcastle show. 2010 we get one stadium show and now this f**king bullshit. I'm still fuming a little. What the f**k am I in Ten Club for? ](*,)

Yeah the Sydney show was shorter too because Ed was crook. Thought we might have got a bit more this time around.

That probably has much more to do with your age than the quality of bands at BDO. No doubt there will be 15-19 year olds today pining for the line ups of the teens a decade from now too.

The main problem though IMO is that they build the acts around teenagers yet price it in such a way that your 20-28 year olds would be the most likely to be able to afford the day

The problem with the BDO is that it spreads itself too thinly. Festival goers are fairly one track minded and will usually only attend for one genre (and it's many variations) and that's it.

Personally, I like the variety, it usually introduces me to new music and often new bands in their infancy. However, I'm definitely in the minority and concede that the other festivals have done a better job marketing themselves.

Got my tickets. Ten Club announced the BDO shows, but nothing else. Generally the deal with BDO headliners is that they don't do sideshows. It's usually part of the contract to beef up that exclusivity.

I'm in the same boat. I enjoy listening to bands I haven't heard of to see who I like, and Big Day Out lineups when viewed 2-3 years down the track tend to look pretty awesome in hindsight.

Mind you, if you actually look back through the line ups from the 90s they aren't exactly that great anyway. Most of them still just have 3-4 awesome bands with a mixture of decent stuff after that they we probably only knew at that stage because we were in school and had plenty of time to obsess over every new band in the genres we liked.

The best line ups for me were actually 2004, 2000, then 2003. Those years included the most bands that catered to my tastes, and I'd pay vast sums of money to be able to go to a festival with those bands again.

$185 a ticket?!?! They've priced themselves out of the casual music festival goer.

Thats pretty standard festival pricing these days, isn't it?

Soundwave has been $200 for the past 2 years IIRC.

Close enough to $200 yeah, people will still buy tickets at that price, gotta tag yourself and take selfies for the Facebook and all that.

I though soundwave was like $160?

Being a metal head BDO usually has two or three metal bands that are good to see and then check a few other bands that i casually enjoy. Can't justify spending that much for a few bands I actually want to see.

Soundwave on the other hand is awesomeness from start to finish.

Sound wave has cost me over $400 for 2 tickets with booking fees the past 2 years

Wife just called and suggested that she would get me a BDO ticket for my birthday in January... probably a great way to spend my 30th seeing my favourite all-time band, but I cant do it. i cant see them in a festival setting. I cant deal with the merkins who attend these things.

I get the feeling BDO tries to cater for the older crowd now, which is good (being 30 now), except its still over run by 19-22 year olds who don't know the bands, dont care about the bands and just want to say they went to a festival.

Hopefully the lure of Pearl Jam attracts a more mature crowd for this one. Just bought some tix for the Gold Coast BDO.
