This year had the crappest line up ever. The only bands i wouldve gone to watch are Mudvayne and Cog...
Hopefully next years line up is better, then i'l finally go to the BDO!!!

CC Eagle. Explain to me what a metal head is? Do you have a stereotype? Do I fit into that stereotype? I guess I must if I'm a metalhead. I look forward to you teaching me more about myself.

A lesser being who wears four layers of heavy black clothing in summer, complete with Dr Martins..Just to fit his or hers certain stereotype to thus be deemed "cool" by other metal loving morons.

They also seem to listen to the worst genre of music..

I'm not saying you fit into that stereotype, just those that precisely fit into it are well...gay

Yes well the irony is that the majority of those you speak of (freaks aside) don't actually listen to metal, rather what many misconceive to be metal in crap like Slipknot (who are woeful).

I'm fairly sure I don't fit into that stereotype or listen to that teen pseudo-metal.

Incidentally, by far the worst genre is pop.

^ Yes those aren't metalheads.

I'm not going for the first time in quite a few years but if you people don't see The Mars Volta, well, you're geniused. Far better than Iggy pop.

I wish I went this year. A friend of mine knows the grates and went backstage with them and had some drinks, he reckoned that he could hook me up with patience, lol

Fcking great day/night. Magic Numbers were superb early, Sleater-Kinney had a couple of great tracks but were a little askew through overzealousness to make sure their recordings sound different from the live stuff. A 7 minute destortion instrumental is a prime example. Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand and White Stripes were all fantastic, I definitely wasn't disappointed by my big 3.

Iggy Pop was just sh*te. I blocked my ears for the last 3 songs. Seriously, awful, awful awful.

Mudvayne went off, timed the day to start off with this band and was not let down, defintely disappointed not to catch them headline thier own gig. Wolfmother got a little indulgement but were qaulity and can make a racket for just 3 guys. Enjoyed Kings Of Leon probably the most due to personal taste but the bass was too heavy in the mix for it to be the perfect gig. Jaw was once again left hanging by the guitarist from The Mars Volta, he's a freaking genius. Shihad didn't really offer that much as the last band of the night if you have seen them before.

Not bad, but here's hoping next year has a little more bite to it.

Sounds damn good wish I was there.
I rate FF...I used to not like them too much but they are slowly winning me over.

Wolfmother ......I can't help but like 'em.

So what if they sound like Sabbath or whoever....
It's only Rock "N" Roll.

Wow, My first big day out experience and it was an awesome day.

Got there early and checked out Wolf and Cub, the two drummers were sorta cool, but they were pretty boring so we left after a few songs. Went to the mainstage to see Airbourne, They were fun as always with their AC/DC impersonations and the lead singer is a great frontmen, but their songs are pretty sh*t so we didn't stay the whole set.
Saw Youth Group on the smaller stage and they were fairly enjoyable.

During Magic Dirts set we went into the D thinking it would take a while to line up but it only took a few minutes. Magic Dirt were pretty meh. Watched Mudvayne while getting a good spot for Wolfmother and they sounded pretty sh*t, all songs sounded the same.
Wolfmother came on and were on fire, opening up with Collossal and played a fkn great set. Played Collossal, Woman, the White Unicorn, Pyramid, Minds Eye, Joker and the thief and Apple Tree. They are definately better performers now then when I last saw them.
Hilltop Hoods were up next, not really interested but watched from the other side of the D. They're good performers, with some catchy tunes that got the crowd going.
Next on the Blue Stage were Kings of Leon. I was looking forward to these guys and they didnt disapoint. Playing a great set of bluesy, country rock and roll. Highlights were probably California Waiting, King of the Rodeo and Tranny finishing was pretty great.
The Living End were up next and they were pretty great. Playing a lot of their hits and a few new songs they got the crowd moving and singing along to all their old tunes. Were a definate crowd favourite. Decided to leave the main stage, not being that keen on Franz Ferdinand.

We got dinner and watched the end of the End of Fashion set. Saw Cut Copy and the essential stage. Not hearing any of their stuff before they were a pleasant surprise. Their funky brand of dance rock got everyone dancing around and having a good time.
The Mars Volta were next on the green stage and they came out 25 minutes late the bastards. They are all amazing musicians and came out with a lot of energy. But further into the set their constant jamming failed to keep my attention the whole time, but all up a pretty enjoyable and different set.
Cog came out and absolutely tore up the stage, the sound was excellent and they had a big crowd. The New Normal is one of my favourite albums of 2005 and the songs translated so well live. Flynns vocals are amzing and Lucius would have to be one of, if not the best drummer in Australia.
Shihad my favourite band closed out the smaller stage and by this stage I was fkn tired. But John Toogood came out on stage and went nuts getting everyone to spend their last bits of energy on them. John, one of the best frontmen in rock climbed every speaker stack and never failed to tell the crowd how happy he was. While it wasn't the best time I've seen them, I could think of no better way to end the day.

All in all a great day and and I can't wait till next year's.

i forgot about cog
they were a great way for me to finish the night. although i did get dragged to the bolier room by the girlfriend on the way out. and then saw just the one shihad song when finding my mates

and i first saw cog in 01/02 and i thought the drummer was definitely one of the best i had seen. nothing has changed

I saw them earlier this year and they didn't play that well. But at the Big Day Out they were amazing.

4th Big Day Out for me, and each year i end up thinking to myself 'No way in hell im going back next year' as i sit on the train going home with sore feet and reeking of other people's sweat.

Started out by watching Airbourne, who were pretty amusing as all their songs featured the words 'Rock N' Roll' or 'Sydney' - they even combined the 2 on their song "Sydney Rock N' Roll!'. Amusing, but got pretty tiring quickly, especially as my ears hadn't got acustomed to the sheer scale of the volume and i was right next to the speaker. Faker were next, and didn't dissipoint. Although i only know their songs from when my girlfriend plays their CD in the car all the time, they put on a pretty good show and played all their hits - all 3 of them at this stage. Gerling were up next, but i only caught the first 3-4 songs before i went off the get some lunch. Played a very rock-y set, which i was dissipointed with as i prefer their 'dance' stuff more.

After lunch and some walking around the venue, came back to the main stage to catch the end of Mudvayne, who were utter bollocks. Next was Wolfmother, who sounded exactly like they do on their album. Very tight live act, and sure got my feett tapping. After Wolfmother, i went and saw the end of Sarah Blasko, who, after Wolfmother, seemed very, very tame. As much as i like her music, i can't say that she's 'festival material'. Up next were the highlight of the day for me - THE GO! TEAM. Best live act i have seen in a very long time. I can't say enough good things about this band (Although i was dissipointed they had no songs in the hottest 100) and if you ever get the chance, gos eem them live. I would of loved to see their sideshow at the Metro. Caught the first few minutes of Henry Rollins before returning to the mainstage to catch the end of Kings of Leon.

After KOL, went and got some dinner (I met James Mathison from Channel V at this point whilst getting a kebab - he's just as much a twat in real life as he is on TV) and explored the rest of the venue before meeting up with some friends again. Saw Franz Ferdinand next, who i thought were pretty bland. They also seemed to play all their 'hits' at the start of the set, which left alot of people bored for about half an hour before the the next act came on. After FF finished, 2/3 of the audience streamed out of the main stage as the second highlight of the evening (IMO) came out - the Stooges. Iggy blew the crowd away and dissipointed everyone who only came to see him perform 'Lust For Life', which he didn't as they didn't play any of Iggy's solo stuff. That guy has a hell of alot of energy for someone who pushing 60. White Stripes were next, and one of the biggest dissipointments for me - although it was the 2nd time ive seen them live, they aren't exactly the tightest live band. They seemed to keep playing out of time and Jack would keep messing bits up (Eg: on 'I Think I Smell A Rat'). After the Stripes, i met up with some more people and went home. The End.

In conclusion: The Go! Team were the best band by far. If you ever get the chance, go seem them - you won't be dissipointed.

I saw the Whitestripes at the Horden on wednesday, thought they were pretty awesome to be honest. I was just wondering if anyone saw the Greenhorns? They played support for the WS and I thought they were one of the most boring bands I've ever seen. WHo the f**k are they anyway? They seemed to have trumped Wolfmother by going back to the early 60's. Aweful.

I'm not sure what it was about The White Stripes live that i didn't like - perhaps it was the acoustics, perhaps it was the mixing, perhaps they're just a good studio band. They've always wrote catchy songs IMO, but they just came off a bit sloppy live.
