Big four offer to take pay cuts to stick together

Whether he would do it or not is obsolete.

IF the NRL said he could have that money over a longer period of time then IT IS SUPPORTING THE CHEATING.

Fact is that the Storm cheated to secure these deals. The only way to truly make them 'pay' for that cheating is to make them 'pay' for it. At the agreed rate over the agreed amount of time.

For mine I would like to see clubs who exceed the cap PENALIZED the following year with a cap reduction equal to the amount the broke it by (so if we were $25K over this season, even by a technical breach, we would need to be $25k under the following).
And if this meant cutting players loose, those players would still be paid by the club, but forbidden from playing for them.

Zeig zlike zee clubz exzeed zcap PENALIZEEED zee zfollowing zear zwith zcap reductzion zequal to zee zamount zee broke it by (zo if zee were $25K over this zeason, zeven by zee technical zbreach, zee zwould zneed to be $25k under zee following). Ziss means zcutting zee players loose, zthose playerszz zwould zstill zee paid by zee club, "but forbidden" zfrom zplaying for zthem" -

Actually, it is a very good point you have raised OldManCraigy
I agree with you.

how in the hell could the auditors find out if the players knew or not when they all refused to be interviewed?

That's a great point, but surely the fact they refused to help speaks volumes about their guilt?

Also, I just got this in reply to my e-mail yesterday:

Dear Michael,

Thanks for your email. We appreciate you taking the time to write in to
us.

David Gallop yesterday publicly stated that wholesale pay cuts will not
be allowed. We have said that clubs cannot be allowed to take players
out of the market with huge offers one year and then cover things up
with pay cuts the next.

The reason for this is because the time you get greatest advantage out
of cheating the cap is when all clubs are competing for that particular
player, and by offering a deal outside the rules you take the player out
of the market. So the mere fact that a player takes a pay cut and the
club keeps the player is not enough as the other clubs involved have
been disadvantaged.

There are provisions for contracts to be renegotiated and for terms to
be extended but that is a complicated process and requires total
transparency.

I can understand your concerns and I hope this information has helped
clarify things for you.

Thanks for your support of the game and good luck with the Eels!

Kind Regards,

NRL

I think Cronk is a solid player, but he is no Thurston or Prince. He is a manufactured halfback who has over-achieved due to the players around him. He is a $300-$350k player at most.

Cameron Smith controls most of the kicking and much of the play, albeit from dummy half. If the Eels board think Cronk will be the saviour, I think they (and us) will be very disappointed.

Yeah, Cronk is a good player, but he`s definitely not worth the $400K to $500K per year that was touted.

that is an intersesting point about looking good with the players around them, even Finch looks allright in that side. There may be some disappointed clubs when storm players are placed in a legal side. Look at bellamys record on an even playing field, not so crash hot.

You might be being sarcastic, but just incase you not i'll say this he's u- turned over some matters including when he stated that under no circumstances will they be able to keep the 4 top tier players and they'll have to at least lose 1.Another thing he stated was they will not be able to take pay cuts. Both those statements he made during the original press conference after the initial release.

They can keep their top 4 players as long as they are willing to pay the 2.3 million to keep him. Its is like saying that we wont be allowed to sign Thurston, Farah and Prince by offering all 3 600K a year. We could go ahead and do so but outside of the 1, 6, 7, 9 we would have the wenty side playing.

That is EXACTLY the side Storm will have next year, they seem hell bent on keeping the 1, 6, 7 and 9 but they will lose a solid forward pack and a solid backline.
In other words, next year they will suck. Unless i read wrong and Cronk, Slater, Inglis and Smith are actually forwards.

yeah - I don't really give a sh*t if they keep their big 4 players - their choice - it wasn't just them who they were cheating with ..... BUT I CANNOT COP THAT THEY MIGHT LET THEM RENEGOTIATE THEIR CONTRACTS TO SAVE THEM MONEY - and in the process keep more money open for a better roster .... they dug their own grave, now they need to lie in it .... cheating pricks! ... and if/when Gallop and his other management cave in and help the cheating pricks by letting them do it, then Gallop will have lost me :x

Strider, if Gallop does indeed do a back-flip on the renegotiation of contracts then it proves that he is just a puppet for News Ltd.

The Storm big 4 renegotiating their contracts is only in the best interests of News Ltd, not the NRL and certainly not the integrity of the salary cap.

so what will you all do if gallop lets them renegotiate? would you give up the NRL? would you give up the Eels? my first reaction is to give up on NRL but my blood is blue and gold what is the answer?

Yes, but...

After the way the "big 4" have carried on, who would want them? Super players - of that there is no doubt. But their attitudes are disgusting. You'd be making a MASSIVE gamble signing them, hoping they're professional enough to give you 100% despite the fact they want to be elsewhere.

I reckon Gallop knows nobody with a brain would want to touch "damaged goods" so he doesn't care if they keep the "big 4" - as long as they get under the cap.

I think the bigger question is would any player other than the QLD team and the current storm even want to play with them?
I'd imagine Cronk would look extremely lonely in a Parra dressing room especially after he was part of the cheating that involved the entire parra team missing out on a GF berth.

Caylo mate your missing the point he's come out on a strong front foot offensive re not being able to keep the all of the big 4, then backflipped..... said under no circumstances will there contracts be re-negotiated and appears to be backflipping again.........and they aren't the only allowances made either

seriously - i don't think the players in the NRL care half as much as fans (not even a small fraction as much) .... for players, its a job - some are probably thinking, damn wish I could have got some of that money - and maybe some are getting benefits also .... i don't believe any player would hold a grudge against any storm player if they came to their club, parra included
