Where there is a stadium.
Although, CQ NRL Bid have the stadium tender/plans ready to go) . Both sides of government backing the funding arrangements (which include CQ Sports Academy, league club upgrades, 1000 seat conference area attached, etc).
Also the largest swimming facility outside SE QLD will be due for completion 2014 (2 stages to go) - it is only a few 100m's away from the Leagues club.

And they already have a club to support! Dont be fooled by the "mining boom" mantra either. Great for those in the industry, but the money doesnt necessarily go to the rest of the community. Rocky is also a big agriculture town too. Not many farmers own NRL clubs.
CQ mines tend to actually support community organisations. A Blackwater reserve grade(CQRU comp) team were sponsored by reportedly $50,000 by a local mine. I've seen a few Indigenious teams sponsored by mines in a CQ Indigenious Carnival. Stanwell Powerplant sponsor the QCup team and also the CQ NRL Bid U13's. A club near Gladstonemanaged $15,000 to build a gym from a "sponsorship proposal written in 10 mins" from a Port company. Just some examples.

Mackay region - Sugar Cane and Mining

Central Highlands - Mining
Gladstone - GAS (massive LPG Gas deals), Ports and mining

So u want to take the Mackay region from us???
Not taking away anything. I'd say it's more both include Mackay - i.e. player recruitment wise, fan support. Similar situation to more Knights or Manly orientated dealings (recruit, fans) with Central Coast.

However Mackay RL are very supportive of CQ NRL Bid:

2010:Mackay is in the process of forming a sub-committee group, as well as the local Rugby League showing its commitment and support for the NRL Bid. Also the Daily Mercury will soon be publishing “CQ NRL Bid Update from CEO Denis Keeffe” as part of the APN distribution.

SIX prospective rugby league stars from the Mackay district are among the first signings announced yesterday by the CQ NRL Bid.
The six are among 20 from across the CQ region named in the inaugural Stanwell Junior Development U-13 team.

Sponsorship:
QR National (a pledged Principal sponsor already). They have sponsored QLD Reds approx 6.5 million over 5 years (before privatisation) and currently Newcastle Jets/Knights around $2million over 3 years.
Qr National already sponsored the Schools program last year & the Scholorship program (over $50,000 towards 12 juniors who applied). Also donated $50,000 for flood affected junior clubs in CQ last year.

Everyone harps on about how a CC team will rob other clubs of sponsors, without ever actually giving any examples of such, or showing which clubs will lose sponsorships due to our inclusion.

Doesn't this quote show how the CQ bid will directly affect Newcastle? Where is the outpouring of outrage from those who decried the CC as doing exactly what the CQ bid is hoping to do? It seems that it is ok for CQ to steal other clubs' sponsors, but all cry foul if the CC are introduced as they think the same will happen (without actually having any evidence to support their unfounded claims!).

Qr national committed to CQ NRL Bid in 2010

"AUSTRALIA'S largest rail freight company today announced a three-year sponsorship deal for the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets to complement its backing of the CQ NRL bid. QR National managing director and CEO Lance Hockridge said the announcement built on the company's commitment to regional communities and "complements our support for the Central Queensland NRL Bid."
"We're a company with a national footprint and just as we're proud to support the push to bring a rugby league team to Central Queensland, we are similarly very excited about getting involved in supporting sport and the local community in the Hunter Valley."
Mr Hockridge joined players and officials from the respective national league and soccer teams at Newcastle's Ausgrid Stadium to make the announcement."
