And they already have a club to support! Dont be fooled by the "mining boom" mantra either. Great for those in the industry, but the money doesnt necessarily go to the rest of the community. Rocky is also a big agriculture town too. Not many farmers own NRL clubs.
CQ mines tend to actually support community organisations. A Blackwater reserve grade(CQRU comp) team were sponsored by reportedly $50,000 by a local mine. I've seen a few Indigenious teams sponsored by mines in a CQ Indigenious Carnival. Stanwell Powerplant sponsor the QCup team and also the CQ NRL Bid U13's. A club near Gladstonemanaged $15,000 to build a gym from a "sponsorship proposal written in 10 mins" from a Port company. Just some examples.
