Billy Slater on field bullying. A low act

I realise it's dangerous to comment on the situation because we don't know what was said by both players, but just a suggestion.

I think we've all said or done silly things in the heat of the moment, but in this case a $10,000 donation to Beyond Blue might be appropriate. It would raise awareness & be a positive response to a story that created negative publicity for rugby league.

Do people sledge Slater for being a genius??? Would it be ok for people to sledge Scott Porter about the loss of his sister??

Exactly what the NRL needs, lets teach kids to punch that guy who sledged you AFTER the game, OFF the field (the violence on the field turns people away from junior league let alone off it). In fact, why not punch all three of them, but then he sledged damo and marto as well so we've all gotta go have a chat and then robbo sledged that other prick so they're chatting as well, wait no we're just having a brawl because the NRL guys do it.

Dickhead.

Go f**k yourself.

It's better than what is currently on show, make fun of someone else's legitimate plight and get off scott free, gee that's a f**king great lesson in tolerance right there.

If it's said on the field it's all fair in love and war. I would encourage it. It's healthy gamesmanship.

I support next you do gooders will ask the players to stop spitting on the grass or blowing snot out their noses in the dressing sheds?

How could you encourage a player sledging another player about the loss of his sister saying its all fair just because its said in a game? How is that justified?
If a family member of yours died, how would you feel if someone started rubbing that in your face no matter where it is especially if its used in spite of you?

And the same goes with the depression matter, it's not fair to sledge to a player about severe depression. Its a serious condition that can lead a person to suicide and can take months if not years to get rid of but can quite easily come back.

I just hope for Cory's sake that Slater didn't say anything to spark it back up.

I do want George Rose executed for his pathetic dog act last week.

The NRL's got form on this front. They charged Paul Gallen $10,000 for a few words to Mickey Paea, so I expect Billy will be getting charged $10,000 as well.

Good on slater for having a dig at him as so many use depression as an excuse, and for people wanting to kill themselves over something going wrong then thats just plain selfish and all you will do is hurt your family.

Ii cant feel sorry foe people using depression as an escape route, and this is from a person that really doesnt have luck on his side.

It isn't an escape route, it's a scientifically proven ILLNESS.

There's a difference between being depressed and suffering from depression, the medical condition.

The selfishness of killing yourself has absolutely no relevance. But I severely doubt people who do kill themselfs are aiming to emotionally hurt their family.

You keep talking about depression as if it's some sort of excuse or cop out. Obviously you've never been in contact with people suffering from the illness.

What? You do realise depression isn't some form of lifestyle choice don't you? It's a legitimate mental illness. Ever met anyone with depression? Until you do you won't realise how hurtful those comments are.

I can't believe Slater apologised. Hasn't he ever heard of 'deny deny deny' and when caught red handed......continue to deny.

If he did say this, and the referee heard it/it's caught on audio...isn't there grounds for suspension? Guys get suspended for short stints for careless tackles etc when there's no intent - there can be no mistaking intent when you open your mouth to give a guy A-holes about a serious condition (if he did say that).

The day a player gets suspended for telling another bloke to have a cry is the day we pack up the NRL, put the players in tutus and point them towards the nearest ballet class. Deadset, this is the biggest non-event of all time, can't believe it's even been brought up. Billy wouldn't have even got in trouble if he'd said that on the playground when he was seven.

Well having a friend that has committed suicide and other friends including an ex partner attempt suicide, and had friends needing to be institutionalised because of depression, I feel qualified enough to say that if you're laughing at mental illness like you claim, you're as low, if not lower, than Slater, because you're internet post certainly isn't a subconscious, heat of the moment response, it is a calcuated point saying you laugh at depression. What a horrible person you are.

People saying they should harden up? How exactly do they fight something they can't control? I'm sure Cory's on some "harden the f**k up softcock" pills known as anti-depressants so he can handle what he's going through, unlike others who can't handle it and kill themselves. If anyone here at all is defending Billy Slater's comments, they (admittedly in some of these posts) have no idea what dealing with an individual with mental illess is like. Having recently had a partner of nearly 4 years with depression, I can assure you she wasn't being a softcock who couldn't handle things.

I wonder how people would be reacting if this was Johnny Mannah. Is it okay for him to be blasted for having lymphoma now? What about Anasta's mum having breast cancer? That been given the all clear yet? Worse yet, when a footballers wife miscarries. They're all just as bad as this.

Yeah sure, blast someone for being a fat merkin, say you rooted his girlfriend, give them hell about not being able to catch a cold and being a general f**kwit. Don't give people sh*t about their illnesses and things that they can't control. It isn't right.

Let's clear it up. I am to certain degrees an arsehole. I am also a hypocrite. I am a human. My whole point in this epic saga is that so are you and everyone else here. If you have never laughed at the mong Liger or Ching Chong Potato or any other internet meme that is based on those less fortunate then I will glady f**k myself with a pineapple.
