Great news. Gives breathing space to enjoy his footy as a shark for 2016. Just fear we will all be having the same conversations this time next year.

That's a given.

I worry that it might not be a long career, considering his health challenges. He does seem to be a determined young bloke though.
When he matures a bit more he might realise it's not all about money.

I don't think it is all about money for him, otherwise he'd have taken the 5 year guaranteed.

I suspect the 1 year extension will be to asses exactly what position we find for him and whether he wants to continue in that position.

I think he wanted the short extension so he could bargain for more when the time comes. He's still unproven and clearly thinks his worth is going to keep increasing to a point where a lot of clubs will clamour for him. It seems primarily financial (which is fine), and he's waiting for a contract window where clubs have deep pockets and want a Jack Bird on the books. Bit of a gamble imo, but smart on his (and our) part

He will regret the 1 year deal if he becomes a victim of 2nd year syndrome. Still no confirmation from the club. This saga has dragged on like religion. He is coming though.

Dragged on? Mate it is December. He has been able to negotiate with other clubs for a grand total of 52 days.
He is a young kid that is exploring his options.
This has far from dragged on.

If he is still a free agent next August, then it has dragged on.

There are way more players, and better players than Jack Bird off contract. It's the media that has manipulated this into a back page story.

You haven't read about the 3 teams chasing Boyd Cordner yet.

At what point do you think the Dragons began talking to him?

I'd like to wager it was before the 52 days. However, I do see your point.

I don't care to be honest. 2016 hasn't started yet, the year or the season. I am not to worried about what he will be doing in 2017.

He was also negotiating with Manly and the Titans as well. He is a kid setting his future up. What evs. Take up a hobby and stress less about player movement.

Haha not stressing, i just don't put much credence to the 'allowed to talk to clubs after x date'.

The NRL is full of shit in every aspect.

Pity its so good to watch on tv.

No need to apologize because you are 100% correct. He has not made a final decision but the Sharks are the most likely club for 2017 only.

That is the latest information.

Thanks for being polite, thought I might get hammered by some here. The odds are def in Sharks favour $ are better. But has a lot of close mates at the Dragons. Aitken, Duges, Marketo,Farrell etc. I have no doubt if he stays at Sharks for another yr, he will back at the Red V 2018
