Thing is though NT, when he left us to go to the Sharks, he wasn't much defensively.

He came back and had bulked up quite a bit and was a completely different player.

And he hasn't looked back since.

Interesting story.

If you look at his player profile it says - Leaving Souths in 2004 made me grow up

Learnt not to take things for granted and has become a better player ever since he came back to the red and green.

Those who stray from the light and goodness that is Souths, they usually find nothing but hatred, darkness and evil.

Although the Sharks are not as vile, decrepit , soul sapping and purile as some others clubs.

You can put this gossip thread to rest.

On Rugby League Summer time John Lang will be our first choice five-eighth.

FMD I'm still not fully recovered from New Years

John Sutton first choice five-eighth according to John Lang and he also said we have plenty of depth in every position but five-eighth would be the position that we have the least depth.

Unless someone will pay for lipo suction of Matt Mundine

And a bad job hes doing.

On that last point Id say that Newk is probably still at the top of the harbour bridge clinging to an unexploded firework.

Just on the original post. Last night on NRL Summertime Lang was pretty adimant that Sutton was going to be the starting 5/8th.

Well it's pretty hard when some nuffy like David Williams gets picked. Maybe if Merritt grew a beard he would get a look in as well.

I watch every Souths game. and over the past 2 or 3 years I hav'nt seen ANYONE run over Merritt. His defence is as good as his attack. he has great skill and heart.

Exactly. The thing is though is that other fans would have seen him play once or twice 3-4 years ago where he missed a few tackles and dropped a few high balls and they then have this opinion that he is poor defensively and their opinions will never change no matter how well he's playing.

Sutton is the best option for 5/8 at the club. He has proven this over the offseason. Plenty of others were tried in the position including falloon and Simpson. None of them came up to Sutto. Ftr Lang still see's paea as an important cog in the wheel and even mentioned him in an interview recently. I'm confident that my source wasn't lying about this conversation. I'm even more confident that Lang just changed his mind.

He's proven it for years, let alone the off season and the others were only given a go because he was injured and/or would have been rested anyway.

Playing him at lock, especially over Burgess was never going to happen.

Hopefully Lang realises you don't have to tinker much with this team, just give them their heads and watch the points rock on in.

We are going to towel the feathered filth from Sewage Junction on Sunday.
