Was it allright for Ray Price to walk out on Union and join League..? Did that make hima traitor?

I don't recall Ray Price ever walking out on Parra, haviing a sook and then going to Union only to decide a short time later to have another sook and return to League.

Tell me when anything like that happened.

El, obviously I'm pointing out that players are not traitors just because they switch codes. IMO, its either a childish accusation or just a shit stir.... I can accept the latter.

Well it's neither.

Blacklock had his little sook and deided to piss off with some bullshit time off excuse and then he turns up playing Union.

The guy shouldn't be welcomed back into League after that bullshit.

You Dragons take back anything after they've done the dirty. First Mundine and now Blacklock.

you have obviously never had players like these two on your team in the last 20 years to understand why the majority of supporters would welcome them back.

how's that paul green deal going?

Well iwhy didn't you put your thoughts in the Paul Green thread?

Maybe that would be too logical.

Come on ,guys, lets get this Blacklock thing in perspective.
He wasn,t happy with the Dragons so trhey let him walk out on a legally binding contract.
Now he allegedly wants to walk out on a legally binding contract with the NSW RU.
The bloke is a jerk and the NSWRU should stand their ground and extract full compensation for their investment
I think the NSWRU may release him as they have probably realised what everyone in League has known for some time -that Blaclock couldn,t tackle a good feed and for every try he scores ,he,ll let one in.

that's funny from someone who felt the need to mention mundine in this thread.

most saints supporters will forgive mundine and blacklock because they are a joy to watch when they play league.

you can go on supporting the greens and the dykes.

the nswru can go and get f**ked. they were the f**kers who kept telling blacklock to quit the saints and play union. now they have reaped what they sowed. i hope blacklock doesn't plat another super 12 match again and their investment goes down the toilet.

"every try he scores ,he,ll let one in."
You know thats bullshit.
midas, the whole defence thing has been argued over and over and theanti-Blacklock mob basicallypoint out one incident when he missed a tackle on Wendell Sailor. His overall statistics were pretty good for a winger... yes, for a winger - people forget that he played first grade because he scores tries.

It wasnt unusual for people to compare Sailor to Blacklock as a way to disqualify Blacklock's abilities. Thats fine, Sailor was a tremendous attacking player and not a bad yard stick to measured against. In actual fact, the shit hit the fan when Ainscough was selected ahead of Blacklock for NSW. Ainscough didnt let anyone down but the selectors were stupid for overlooking Blacklock who was playing better than ever.

Its interesting to note that Sailor's defence was also questionable but this is rarely spoken of. People once again prefer to pont out individual incidents which for some reason carry more weight. But more than that,Sailor had a habit of going MIA in the latter part of his League career. I lost count of the amount of times an outside centre or five eighth would look to his flank for support only to see Sailor busy in the back play arguing with an opposing player.

I hasten to point out that the big difference between Sailor and Blacklock's switch to Union was that Sailor did it for money. Blacklock's situation was more complicated but it had nothing to do with money.

Having said that, Sailorwas an exciting player and if he was able (big question mark), I think it would be good to see him and also Lote Tuqiri make a return to League.

What was his exact reason Willow?
I remember one minutehe was telling the league world that he had personal problems. Then he said he wanted to return home to the bush.Next he was saying it was because he was not happy playing the game. He may have also mentioned that he was not happy at the Dragons. And then there was the State of Origin snub by the selectors that the media was reporting.
I lost track of his reason or reasons somewhere along the way there.
Why did he leave the Dragons and rugbyleague? Surely theRUmoney had or gave hima huge nudge in his decision. Yes?

Navigator, you've pretty much answered your question. There were a lot of reasons.

"Surely theRUmoney had or gave hima huge nudge in his decision. Yes?"
Nope.... it wasnt for money... out of all of this, thats the one thing that is clear.
He went to Union for less than half of what he was getting at St George.

don,t quite know what the point of comparing Blacklocks defence with Wendell,s was-neither of them can tackle.
As for the Ray Price analogy-Price was an amateur with no contractual ties -big difference.

that's funny from someone who felt the need to mention mundine in this thread.

Mundine was used in the same sentence as Blacklock because it shows that Dragons fans easily forgive those that betray them.

This is what I said in case you forgot You Dragons take back anything after they've done the dirty. First Mundine and now Blacklock.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dragons fans would accept him back again despite the way he bagged RL and a few Immortals who just happened to be Dragons players.

Green has done nothing at all to have his name mentioned in this thread.

Only geniused logic would find a way of using him as an analogy.

And I dont know how anyone could think Blacklock let in as many tries as he scored... theres nothing to back that up.

The Ray Price analogy was to illustrate the absurdity of seriously calling someone a traitor just because they switch codes. Why anyone would take a player's business as being their own (to point ofthinking treachery is involved) is beyond me.

I wouldn,t consider the term "traitor" applicable. My gripe is with the guys who sign contracts and then think they have no obligation to fulfill the terms of the contract.
Dymock,Smith and all those SL guys were prime examples. As good as they were as players I never respected them after they claimed they were coerced into signing the original contracts.(What crap ! They couldn,t wait to sign.)
The same applies to Blacklock.Sooner or later he has to fulfill his end of the bargain.
What if he comes back and then has a tiff with Brownie? What,s he going to do-rack off and play tiddlywinks?
Bob Dwyer is quoted as saying today that Blacklock has no options.I hope he sticks to that.

Its interesting to note that the talk not seeing outpast and present contracts has intensified since Dwyer came out and bagged Blacklock.
Dwyer has his own agendas and I for one take his opinion with a grain of salt.

"My gripe is with the guys who sign contracts and then think they have no obligation to fulfill the terms of the contract.
Dymock,Smith and all those SL guys were prime examples."

So by that logic, you also have little respect for Brian Smithand Rod Reddy?

Both failed to see out their contracts with St George as coaches and Rocket even shot through without a moments notice - well and truly leaving Saints in the lurch without a coach. There was seemingly no respect for the contract and seemingly no loyalty to the club that nutured him for so many years.

In 1996, I was shocked at Reddy's departure and even angry but I got over it pretty quick because 1.)prevailing circumastances and, 2.) it was none of my business.

I still have the same respect for Reddy nowadays that I had for him when he was setting up and scoring tries at Kogarah all those years ago. Now he looks after young players at Parramatta and I say good luck to him.

Its worth noting that as with Blacklock and Mundine, the St George club didnt stand in the way of Smith or Reddy either. The reason being that there was more to this than meets the eye.
I'll repeat that... the club did not stand in their way... At the end of the day, everyone agreed it was for the best.
Regardless of what we think here, the decisons were ultimately up to those people who were in the immediate vicinity of the situation.

"What if he comes back and then has a tiff with Brownie? What,s he going to do-rack off and play tiddlywinks?"
You don't know that will happen. For a start he's keen to return for a number of reasons and is presumably older and wiser. And secondly, Tingha is a shocking tiddly winks player.
