St George Illawarra forward Blake Lawrie has extended his stay at the Dragons for a further three seasons.

Lawrie will now remain at the club until at least the end of the 2022 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

The local Dapto Canaries junior – nicknamed 'Blocka' – has played every first grade game for the Red V in 2019; taking his current career tally to 25 games since his NRL debut in Round 17, 2017.

The former Junior Kangaroo Lawrie couldn't be happier to remain with the Dragons, the club he developed through the system at.

"Being a local junior and being able to wear the Red V each and every week means a lot. It's been a dream come true to play first grade at the Dragons," Lawrie said.

"Re-signing with the Dragons is a great opportunity for myself. To be able to secure my future here for the next three years is something I'm very grateful and pleased about."

Director of Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward was glowing in his appraisal of Lawrie following his retention.

"At 22 years of age, Blake Lawrie is an uncompromising forward. He plays tough and there's still so much more upside in him," Millward said.

"He's a person who typifies everything about our organisation – he's a good bloke, the others like playing and training with him and he's ruthless with his attitude in being successful.

"He enjoys being a Dragon and has always aspired to be play NRL at the Dragons; he's shown this coming through the club's junior ranks.

"He's now holding his own in a team full of State of Origin representatives so we're really excited Blake has chosen to secure his future with the Dragons."

Lawrie's extension follows the recent key re-signings of Dragons trio Tariq Sims, Jordan Pereira and Matt Dufty.

Love the criteria "he's a good bloke " A bad choice of words by Millward that just may show how we roll. A bunch of really nice blokes that get on with each other and sometimes may win a game or two.
Anyway , hope he continues to improve and he hasn't already reached his ceiling.
Couldn’t see him reaching the ceiling under this muppet!!
Coached by Bennett or Belamy and probable origin/kangaroo player. Stays with us and good park footy player.

Blake Laurie is probably the only junior in Mary's time whose transition to NRL has been well managed. A real contrast to blokes like Host, Sele, Field, Zac, Luc and Robson, to name a few. At least Luc has now had enough opportunities to begin to show his wares. What about Zac? Will he be allowed to settle into his 4th position (bench, winger, centre, fullback)?

Anyway good luck to Blake. Look forward to him thriving especially under a new coach in 2022 hopefully at the latest.

Long way off any rep honours IMHO.

Still, has potential and seems like the right attitude. Should stay well grounded, secure his position and who knows.
I see some good things in this kid. See a bit of Lazarus in him.
Anyway my main point was that he isn’t going to excel under Mary.

I get excited when I read this from a young player these day.

It's a shame the clubs feels the same way about the coach. Look what JD did with part timers, the mind boggles.

I am still not convinced that he is a regular starting forward. He does give his all, but his lack of size goes against him. I still see him as a decent bench forward.

If I was selecting our team right now, Lucky would be my starting lock.
