The adulation for “pudding” Lawrie is what makes us what we are namely pretty ordinary.

Good club man, gives his best yes but that doesn’t make for being a captain.

Footy brains, sense of the moment, quick thinking, smart decision making are what is needed and Blake has none of that and never will.

You may be right OT, but I would have him as captain over Ben Hunt every day of the week! I have hopes that Lomax will develop into a good Dragon's captain.

Blake is an excellent on field "follow my example" style leader. Every team needs a few leaders like that.

However captain should be someone with real game management skills, calm under pressure. Usually best if it's one of the smart spine players. Someone who can talk to referees and make sure the players are sticking to the game plan. Also ideally should be an 80 minutes player. Our spine is currently an area of weakness for us but give Flanagan time and I think he will fix it, and a proper replacement for Ben Hunt will happen.

Flanno has some of these boys confidence up which is a good start judging by Blake's comments of making SOO. I think that was what was lacking last season. They seemed and looked way to comfortable playing average and did not push themselves as much as they could have I feel. If Flanno can make Blake a version of what Gallen or Fifita were at the Sharks that would be huge for the Dragons.
