big hit!

I don't think how many metres a prop makes is that important, its how he's making those metres that counts
an example at souths a few years ago, Souths had 2 second rowers, taylor and sam burgess both averaging 140m. Sam would take hit ups of the try line, try take hit ups early in the count, get fast play the balls, do the shit work. Taylor would never take a hit up before tackle 3, would rarely take hit ups of he's own try line, ran mainly at halfbacks and all his runs came off fast play the balls from blokes like burgess. Now if you looked at the stats and saw that both players made 140m you'd think they were equal, but I don't think anyone would rate taylor at burgess'es level

i totally agree.

as i said, one stat doesn't tell the whole story. they all should be used, as well as qualitative variables to obtain the whole picture.

even metres per carry could be skewed in favour of interchange middle forwards/props who come on fresh at the back end of the first half and may make their carries against big minute yet tiring middle third players of the opposition.

stat numbers should always be viewed with a dose of skepticism. there are always other variables at play. just like how some halves shine behind a pack or struggle when they struggle in origin when taken out of their familiar club game structure.

my post was very much in response to how total metres per game seems to be the only go too stat.

stats are always misleading. Even for halves people go to try assists. A half can rack up a number try assists when he's teams dominate. A better sign of a half is how he handles tough situations. There is no stat for the number of times someone like lockyer done the right play at the back end of a close match for example.
On the run metres, Corey Parker was claimed to be Australia's to be Australia's best forward because he ran for 190m. But there was an occasion in the test were Parker got put into a hole and ran 30 metres, but as he was tackled he through the ball back 20 metres and a kiwi player jumped on a lose ball. So roughly 1/6 of all parkers metres came of that one play that was costly for australia.

(if he is indeed making an early comeback from injury)

We might not be able to throw a magical pass but at least with Soward and Reynolds we'll be able to kick them to death.

Thats a combination to give some serious thought to. Match fitness and form are a big concern though.

If neither had of got hurt they would be certainties imo. Reynolds and Soward were the form halves, Soward has played 2 games though. Probably the two best kicking games in the comp and I think a left and right foot combo aswell. Reynolds is good defensive half and Soward definitely holds his own now. I think if they both come through this week and next with solid games than pick them for sure.

Tedesco probably proved he's not up for it.

In the meantime Pearce and Maloney have cemented their spots

How did he prove that by having a solid game even when his team were getting out muscled up front ?

Every player play in a team that gets flogged at some stage of almost every year and Tedesco played a good solid game making 0 errors and 0 missed tackles. 10 minutes in to Penrith game and Moylan has thrown a pass directly to the broncos

He was solid at best in a dreadful Tigers team. Agreed. May have let in 2 tries iirc (correct me if I'm wrong)

But think of it like this...in origin both teams are pretty much even in contest, when the games on the line do you think young Teddy could handle the pressure of origin? only time would tell but I think tonight showed us glimpses of why he's not quite ready yet

Maybe next year. IMO it still should be Moylan > Stewart > Tedesco in contention for fb. Dugan would've been first if not for injury

I don't think this is the game that cements it for pearce.
Their is no doubt pearce is talented, and when his team gets a roll on pearce is fantastic, he looks as good as any other half back. But this rarely happens in origin. It's in the tough close games were Mitchell's flaws really show. For this year look at his games vs rabbitohs, broncos and Dragons, all tight and tough grinding games were he has failed to deliver. These games are more closer to what he would expect on origin, not a training run against the tigers.
If blues were expected to win and could roll on with the game then pearce would be a great choice. But if the games going to be a close affair, which its almost inevitably going to be, is Pearce the halfback we want when scores are locked in the 75th minute.?

Haha if Tedesco showed he wasn't up to it, he let in 1 kick from a contested bomb which the roosters tapped backward all the others were down the wing or 1 on 1 with Moses then what about Moylan.

Through a wild pass direct to the Broncos, dropped a simple ball and made another poor error just can't remember what it was (its late) and gave a way a penalty. Plus Corey oates ran over the top of Moylan to score the match winning play in the 80th minute. Now that is a chocking performance especially after his absolut shocker last week in CvC

I think that Dugan should be fullback and Stewart offers great experience but Moylan should be a long way behind Tedesco

And the myth Roberts has been shut down by Jarrod Choker who cant tackle, 2 weeks in a row. If it was the other way around we'd be hearing how Roberts should have been in the Aussie side
