It is over. I am calling it now. Queensland will win and win easily. We won in spite of our selectors last year because we were playing an arrogant and lazy Queensland team. They'll be angry and hungry this year.

And how could Mitchell Pearce get ANOTHER chance. How many series has he lost? 4? 5? Nobody else has ever got that much time.

There are 3 possible ways for this team to score:
1) Jennings, Fifita or Dugan make an individual break while attacking their line
2) Hoffman, Merrin or Fifita pop a magic offload to Jennings.
3) Hodkinson kicks for Tupou to score 5 times, and one of them will come off.

Forwards look good other than Corder (Sims or Friz should be there). Backs and halves, not so much.

CONFIRMED NSW SQUAD: Dugan, Tupou, Jennings, J. Morris, Hopoate, Pearce, Hodkinson, Woods, Farah (c), Tamou, Hoffman, Scott, Jackson. Interchange: Merrin, Klemmer, Fifita, Cordner.

Not a BAD squad, except in a couple of key positions!

Bench looks great.
Pointscoring looks like it will be difficult. It is all about Farah and Merrin in the creativity department to create a couple of tries, and then hope we can tackle our guts out.
Merrin has to be given free reign to pass before the line, offload the ball, or do the riverdance.

Moylan should have been FB
Johnston on the wing (Hoppa? Seriously?!?)
Dylan Walker probably unlucky?

No idea how to fix the halves? I would've picked Austin, but no idea if he has what it takes - really the only halfback option is Adam Reynolds, and even he isn't "the answer".

I was going to post something similar but since BM has already said it I am now quietly confident despite the derpy NSW team.

Jackson's a good defender, runs hard, tough, his numbers in attack aren't flashy but he offers more than Cordner. He isn't a Lock tho so Merrin probably should be starting.

Where the hell are our points going to come from?

We should dominate the forwards but that will only create space for halves that couldn't attack a cheeseburger after a night out in the shire.

Agreed...he has taken Lewis's spot as a versatile backrower but Merrin should be starting. Merrin should get as much game time as possible.

He has beenconete and utter tripe at rep level, makes pearces performances look Wally like. Picking him ahead of Lewis is farcical.
He's played 3 games off the bench :?

You're going to judge him on that? Even though he was solid on debut. But don't let that get in the way of this crazy notion that Boyd Cordner is average. Tough as nails, makes the hard yards, great defender, great hole runner... but yeah, he's shit. :?

Just because Pearce has been given like 13 chances doesn't mean all your derpers will. He doesn't perform game 1 piss him off.

Anyway this incumbency shit is ridiculous. Hoppa? Really? Has he looked like a rep player even 1 time since he came back?

Daley comes from that outdated old coaching concept that Origin experience is invaluable because of the bigger, more intense stage. Meninga could easily be described as the same but at least his selections are good players

My thinking is that NSW will look to gain the upper hand through the forwards, then rely on the backs (through quick sets of hands) to score points. I'm assuming Hodkinson will have kicking duties over Wayne Pearce Jnr? If his only responsibility is to act as a surrogate hooker and pass the ball left or right, then he MIGHT (emphasis on the word 'might') not f**k the whole thing up.

Regarding Qld, I think they're making a mistake not playing G.I at fullback. Apart from Cronk, he is the most damaging attacking player the Maroons have. Their best chance of winning would come from playing him in his regular position- look what a difference it made to NSW having Hayne in his regular position. Not taking anything away from Billy, but he doesn't have the same pace he once did. In the next year or so, the Qld selectors are going to have to make some hard decisions about whether they reward long-term Maroons players for their service with selection, or play the team/ players in position who stand the best chance of winning.

Even though I psyched myself up, preparing myself for the selection of Pearce. Reading the teams, I still got shitty. Laurie your a f**khead.

Seriously though what can the selectors/coach see that we can't?
