Books you've read that would be great on the screen

He must've had a change of heart. With the Bourne movies, they can't use stunt doubles for a few of the parts, so Damon has to take a few of the hits himself, which is why he doesn't (or didn't) want to film them anymore.

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/matt-damon-jason-bourne-to-return-1201352015/

Damon said when asked for clarification. ?It?ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that?s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.?

Sounds Like Damon was keen on playing Jason Bourne all along.

I would love to see some more Discworld books attempted. The stories that I have seen done in the last 10 years or so were pretty good, although it was quite jarring to see the guy from A Touch of Frost play Rincewind in Colour of Magic.

I think in particular the City Watch stories would translate very well to film.

David Gemmell's Troy trilogy. Love the Drenai series, but he was truly at his prime when writing the Troy saga. Unfortunately he died while finishing the third book.

Told mainly from the Trojan perspective of the conflict and with fleshed out characters such as Aeneas, Odysseus, Priam, Hector and Andromache etc. He also adds a greater spectrum to the conflict, incorporating Thrace, the Hittite empire and Egypt and includes other mythos and historical events of the age.
Considering there hasn't been a series of this genre worth a shit since HBO's Rome, I'd love to see it realised.

Blood Meridian by Cormac MCarthy. Probably too violent to make into a mainstream flick though.

Everything of his I read has me reaching for a knife to slit my wrists. I got about 10 minutes into the film adaptation of The road before I decided I wasn't prepared to deal with the emotional trauma of it again.

Amazing author, absolutely dark places he goes to.

Yeah his shit gets pretty dark. I assume you've seen "No Country for Old Men", pretty bleak movie right? Well the book is way darker- it's the most soul-crushingly bleak thing I've ever read. That said there's most definitely an amazing beauty too his writing too, his prose is pure poetry at times, you can re read passages over and over just for the beauty of the language.

Any of the Jack Reacher books are easily transferable to the screen. Needs better casing though, no Tom Cruise.

River Thieves

There is a role there that Daniel Day-Lewis could own. Well he could own anything, but thinking of his Daniel Plainview role, or Bill the Butcher.

The first law books from Joe Abercrombie would make a good 'game of thrones' style series

Agreed. Abercrombie is pretty fantastic.

I'd love to see Patrick Rothfuss' work done someday, but he has to finish it first.

The dark Tower series. Doubt it will ever get off the ground it's just too big and hard to do.

It would only work as a TV series IMO. There's too much to it for it to be done justice on the big screen.

The Farseer Trilogy

I just re-read the first ones. They'd make a pretty fantastic TV series or series of movies, for sure.

Yep, it's grim. Grimmer than the film managed to portray it for sure. But I was capable of sitting through the movie. There is something about The Road just absolutely devastated me however. Amazing author however, can truly weave the words together. I'd have him in the same category as Rushdie in terms of the power of his prose. He just goes somewhere a little more disturbing with it.

Blood Meridian was my first thought when I saw the thread title. But when I thought about it a little longer I decided I don't want to see a film adaption, I just don't see how it could ever do the book justice for several reasons, the violence being one of them.

And I'm not sure if mainstream audiences are ready for The Judge.

I found Satanic Verses a tough read. Might be time for another go.

Yeah it's probably really best left alone... but you can only imagine how awesome it could be if it was done right.

I've been watching some movies lately based on stories written by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. They could make some more movies based on other stories that they have written. Some things that HP Lovecraft wrote could be made into movies too.

LovecraFt would have to be handled carefully. The power of his stuff is the mystery before the reveal.

I reckon John Connolly's Charlie Parker series would be a great X-Files meets True Detective type show
