Roosters sign Australian Schoolboy

The Sydney Roosters have signed Australian Schoolboys representative Boyd Cordner from the Newcastle Knights.

The16 year old has penned a deal that will see him at the Bondi club for the next four seasons.

This is great news for the Roosters with another promising youngster joining our junior ranks.

Cordner has been playing Harold Matthews for the Knights and is strongly tipped to be a future first grader.

He is still eligible to play SG Ball but will step up to join the NYC squad.

I saw a piece in the paper the other day that Callen Richardson has signed with another club as well (can't remember who the club was though)

Good to see the rorters developing their own juniors

Maybe the Knights tricked the Roosters into thinking he was an Australian Schoolboy?

They wouldn't know any better. The Roosters idea of a " junior " is the type of meal you buy at Bondi Junction McDonalds in order to get 20 freeee tickets to the next Roosters home game, and 25 blow up dolls to put in the seats around you.

Edit- Wow such shameless profiteering going on around here. Now when you write the word " free " , it links to sportsbet

No I'm not, I click on your Google links every now and then just to make you a profit for no bloody reason other than I know it helps.

The cost of your weekly limousine service to take you shopping? Your daily massage and spa treatments? Your new $4.5M mansion?

You probably got the same "costs" as the Catholic church

Boyd is the younger brother of Dane Cordner.
Dane played SG Ball for us all season but Boyd only had one game of Harold Mathews off the bench in the last game of the regular season when we rested a few injured guys.
I think he is probably 15 or so and we were going to use him in Mathews next season, but he made the CCC side for the schoolboy championships and apparently played really well against the 17 and 18 year olds including his older brother who made the public school side - Boyd was still based in Taree and Dane was in Newcastle going to Hunter sports high I think.

Anyway, I've not seen Boyd play because his one game for us was in Canberra - but Dane is a smallish but incredibly hard running second rower or lock.

This may be a stupid question.

BUT... Is the recruitment guy just their to buy players? Like does he have a say in player retention?

I only just noticed this. I think the Knights will regret this. I saw him play at the CCC trials and he is a big prop for his age and although being young outplayed all the Islander props from the MCS teams and such. He was obviously well scouted. It pisses me off that the Roosters poach juniors like this.
