Personally, I thought Smith's performance in the Prelim against the Tigers was the reason we featured the following week...he was huge in that game!

I think he's been a great player and even though he was injured quite a bit you could tell how much better we were when he was on the field. Unfortunately I believe he will retire and not a good buy as he'll be 35yrs old next season

What happens if he is not performing again will Wayne replace him???? Will Wayne make the big decision and put him on the wing or drop him to NSW Cup? There's no way in hell he is worth $600k based on some of our roster earning much less. On paper we would look unbeatable in the backs but do we need to spend the extra money for minor improvement based on mood? As always I play devils advocate as someone has to. IMO he will rise to the ocassion but for how long?

I'm a fan of your work pinkmoon but I can't agree on this. Darius is a legend.
And his anti-media stance has become part of his "brand" if you like now, it's his character. He's the gruff, anti-establishment recluse. Like JD Salinger.

He was crap the 1st year with the Knights as well. If you agree he gave his money's worth last year which a few Knight's people may disagree that he did the whole year he still owes them 1.2 mil for the other 2 seasons. I'm with you bout not getting paid complicates things but that was the last 10 weeks? I dont think any athlete should even play when there is no payment but the Knights fans have been disgruntled way before that. He would be great for us but not at $600k. Seriously do u think he's worth that?

I think Bulldogs would easily pay him that 600k, it's not really that much for dare I say it a marquee fullback. They won't have a problem fitting him in under the cap if you know what I mean...

Realistically youd have to pay him 450-600k, I mean hes not just a winger, hes a fullback.. with plenty of international/origin experience.

Newcastle fans cant wait to see him gone, doesnt seem to show a lot of ticker.. but as we have seen for the Red V, at his best he is devastating, but hes mostly not at his best too..

For QLD he always surprises me that he scores so many tries, I mean hes just feeding off ball from GI/JT/Slater so its not like he does a lot, but he does still to finish very well.. but that role is 100% different to what he needs to do at the Dragons.

Anyway far from my first choice, but if anyone can keep him switched on its Bennett, and definitely a big step up from our current fullback options.

I wouldn't like him back for this reason.If he wasn't getting paid he should have stood down and not taken the field,strike if you like.What about the fans who pay there money ,travel miles ,why sulk and let them and his teammates down.
I would be ropeable if he did that with us,we have a squad with good spirit and don't need a selfish pr*ck to unsettle the squad.Rather the money spent on forwards,MONGREL.

Scuttlebutt suggests not getting his 3rd party money worth about $200K. It's a heap of dosh. It also means he IS getting about $400K balance from the club. Still not too foul an earn.
