Try.

The ref cant disappear. If it were ruled to be no try, players would be running into them more to prevent them.

Try on the basis that an attacking side should not be penalised for something which was not of their own doing.... but I am biased in this instance.

As an aside... WTF was Prince trying to do ?
He appeared to be closer to the ball and Boyd at the time and appeared to just fall over and cry without making any real attempt to do anything else.

Try. Zillman was never going to get there, his initial decision and the bounce of the ball was what created the try. Oh and Prince's poor read. Once upon a time Zillman would have been in hot water for making contact with the referee.

Cartwright going off about it being "crucial" is just ludicrous. The Gold Coast were never in that game, they played poorly and were lucky to get two late consolation tries at the end of the game and still lost by 9.

One the scoreboard it's a try.

According to the current rules, it's a try.

Should there be a review of this rule? Definately.

Close thread.

The Referee shall blow the whistle:
(f) when any irregularity, not provided for in these Laws, occurs and one team unjustifiably gains an advantage

No try.

Not taking anything away from the Dragons, seemed like they were never in doubt. I'd just like to see every player have the best chance of defending a try and not be talking about the merkins in pink

All good mate, the ref positioned himself very poorly during that play last night.

i hate both teams but cmon to say zillman was never gonna get there is crap

btw zillman didnt make contact with the ref the ref made contact with him,the ref even said it was his fault thats why he went up to the video ref in the first place

Its the only real howler from the refs this week, and they recognised that it wasn't ideal but in line with the rule book.

In all, the refereeing has been 100x better this year on last. Mind you, its still only halfway through round one... keep it up Harrigan.

8.1 The Referee must carry a whistle which he shall blow whistle to commence and terminate each half of the game.
Except for these occasions the blowing of the whistle shall temporarily stop the play.
The Referee shall blow the whistle:
(a) when a try or a goal has been scored
(b) when the ball has gone out of play
(c) when restarting play, other than at a scrum
(d) when he detects a breach of the Laws of the Game, except when to stop the play would be to the disadvantage of the non-offending team
(e) when play is irregularly affected by the ball or the player carrying the ball coming into contact with the Referee, a Touch Judge, or with any person not taking part in the match or with any object which should not normally be on the playing field
(f) when any irregularity, not provided for in these Laws, occurs and one team unjustifiably gains an advantage
(g) when a stoppage is necessary in order to enforce the Laws or for any other reason.

are you referring to the irregularity where the player closest to the ball , Scott Prince ran between the attacking player and the referee missed both and the fell over ?
or the irregularity where a player attacking the ball was unable to sidestep a slow moving referee who was moving backwards (and thus could not see where he was going) ?

Personally I believe that Prince's limp effort makes the "unjustifiable advantage" argument more than a little shakey as he was closer to the ball than anyone else and still missed it.
