Breakout year in 2016

Darcy Lussick lol.

It'd be nice if he did but jeez that signing reeks of jobs for the boys sons...

Yeah hear what you are saying and could be a bad call. Just have a feeling he's going to have a big season.

My version of "breakout" for Lussick is really based on his past promise of big things for little delivery. Not saying I think the bloke will be Dally M prop of the year but I think he may finally deliver on the promise.

Likely to prove me wrong, but hey, I will put my neck out there.

James Roberts.

Give him a few rounds outside of Milford and Hunt to find his feet in the squad and you'll get what I mean. You thought winning Dally M Centre of the Year was an achievement.

So the dally m centre of the year, and the subject of a high profile and lengthy bidding war going to have a breakout year next year?

Settle down Princess Peach, I'm merely saying that if Roberts could rip shit playing outside of those plodders in the halves down at the Titans (what are their names again? Clearly I've never heard of the f**kers :)), imagine what he'll do outside of Milf and Hunt.

While we're on the subject, what would the 2015 list resemble?

Broncos - Jordan Kahu
Canberra - Blake Austin
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs - Curtis Rona
Cronulla Sharks - Jack Bird
Gold Coast Titans - James Roberts
Manly Sea Eagles - Jake Trbojevic
Melbourne Storm - Marika Koroibete
Newcastle Knights - Korbin Sims
North Queensland Cowboys - Jake Granville
Parramatta Eels - Danny Wicks
Penrith Panthers - Reagan Campbell-Gillard
South Sydney Rabbitohs - Chris Grevsmuhl
St George Illawarra Dragons - Jack de Belin
Sydney Roosters - Sio Siua Taukeiaho
Warriors - Tuimoala Lolohea
Wests Tigers - Kevin Naiqama

Obviously some teams have more than one (you could name a few Dragons for instance) and others it's really hard to even pick one player (sorry Parra, I failed you) but that's my thought process.

Then I could see others picking players like Milford, RTS, Coote, Tedesco, Gagai etc. For mine those players already 'broke' out and were highly regarded among their peers, this just happened to be their best season is all.

So he could go even better in 2016. But his breakout year was 2015, which is what this thread is all about.

Maybe Frizell or Thompson for the dragons. Both went from average first graders who's names never really stood out to players that were seemingly on the cusp of origin

Good shouts.

I thought there were about 6 players who 'broke out' for the Dragons and neither of them would look out of place. de Belin really impressed me this year. I thought he'd turn out to be a plodder. I thought he was really good at getting through the grunt work and played a key part in the Dragons success.

The problem with these lists is some of it is just hype. I think some of the highlights might be just hype last season. They probably need to back it up this season. Austin still has me confused. I just don't get it at all. Jake honestly was the difference for Manly last season. We would have been very close to that spoon if he hadn't burst through with a award winning season like he did. The bottom 3 or 4 sides it is really hard to have a stand out player. Take Roberts. His D was pretty suspect a times. He made some great attacking plays though.

I think Moa will have a good season at the Roosters. The Sharks will improve as a group. Picking the stand out will be hard, but they have bought well. I have no idea how much of Manly's recruiting are gold or hype yet. Even as a fan. There are a few dud signings out there. I'm not really sure what is going on at the Panthers. Tigers obviously with Ballin and retaining Farah. You would have to think the Titans, Knights and Tigers are in the hunt for the spoon unless they uncover a miracle or two.

2 things from me:

1) If someone has already played representative footy (Aus, NZ, England, QLD or NSW) then they have already broken out, obviously alot of people in this thread have named up and coming players but whoever mentioned Shaun Johnson, give yourself an uppercut, he won a golden boot for f**k's sake

2) That bloke from my team

Huge fan of Jordan McLean from the Storm too.

He'll hit 50 first grade games in Round 5 this year assuming he's available from Round 1 which is generally when first graders start to peak.

Huge kid who was always going to take some time to grow into his body but there were some really good signs last year that he was starting to not just handle the physicality of being a top grade forward but being able to physically dominate his opposition.

This is a strong sentiment shared by a lot of Storm fans.

For a big bopper I think he's a bit reticent to take advantage of his size.

I think Munster will go up a gear as well. With Slater back he'll be back in the three quarter line but will be interesting to see if he still has the same level of impact in a different position.

Kevin Sinfield won a Golden Boot too. What's your point?

I'll go with my heart here n say Nene McDonald.
The Tits could really do with some luck, with Roberts gone he'd be guaranteed to be picked every week.
Would love to see him score more tries than JR in 2016.

Valentine Holmes. I can see him becoming an origin player next year

I think he still might be a bit off Origin just yet. I rate this guy he is a match winner with some great potential but Boyd/Chambers and Oates would be ahead of him for Origin.
