Look at late last season when we were playing well. The players playing well were, Witt, Webster, Dunley, Heckenburg and Peek where are they now?
Witt in PL, Webster in PL, Dunley and Heckenburg Manly and Peek was left out.
So why did we make so many changes when what we were doing then was working?
Beats the shit out me!
Ask Smithy.

If Smith leaves midway through this year and someone else takes over, we can kiss goodbye to any success this year. Smith has to at least last out the year, and if we end up at the wrong end of the ladder, he'd have to consider his position with us. He's made mistakes, but if we win next weekend with a similar side and a great gameplan, who will get the credit? Smith, or the players? Both deserve it, but I feel Smith's reward would be a week without the knives edging any closer rather than the praise he would deserve.

If you don't like Smith, fair call, I can understand why. But he most definitely wasn't the biggest problem last night. Heart was the problem, and while its part of his job to fire the team up for a big season, its up to the players to stand and be counted. They didn't do that, and the look on his face as the game went on showed he was just as frustrated as we were in the crowd watching on.

I say give him this year and if we make the eight, next, and groom JT or someone similar for the role when his contract is up. And if we don't win a game this year, well, bring out the axe, and let me swing the damn thing.

If it gets to the point where Smith has to leave mid year our final 8 chances will be way gone anyway. It will at least be a way to audition a potential candidate, see how he handles the rest of the season and see how the players respond.

I'm not saying we should make the change right now but if things don't improve and the board decides that we will have a new coach next year then it might be better to do it sooner rather than later.

A very bad night all around.

Nothing is going to change last weeks result, but the season is not over.

Get up, dust yourself off, and get back in there and fight like hell.

I made my call re Smith last year. Truthfully, I can't wait to change my tune, but I need the excuse first.

Some of us are looking in the context of the last few years. Smith, being the coach-in-charge, has top shoulder our blame. Wether it is other elements in the network of people in the Parramatta machine under Smith that is actually the problem, we cannot accurately know. However, it is Smith's responsibility to sort 'em out.

Wether Smith gets praised for our next win is not the issue. Smiths own praisometer should not even come into it. It's not about Smith, it's about Parramatta. It's about weather Parramatta performs, not Smith. If Smith performs to he best of his ability, and Parra don't, Smith has to go. Simple. It's not about Smith staying, Parra continuing to play crap, and the entire Eels army being psychologically altered to like Smith because he's a nice bloke who tries hard. It's about Parra achieving what it should.

I'll repeat my words from last year. Some people seem to think that the single most important function of the Parramatta Rugby League Club is to provide employment for Brian Smith and Denis Fitzgerald.

Smith.........mmmmmmmm yeah I've had enough. I been bagging him for years on another forum/site. He is a perennial loser and that performance by the Eels against the arsehole bulldogs lacked enthusiasm, a game plan and pride in the Eel's colours.Isn't this the job of the coach?
