Q) IT HAD THE MAKINGS OF A DRAMATIC GAME AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT?
A) It certainly lived up to all the hype. The crowd was enormous and everyone was pumped, including the players. The fans and the television viewers got their moneys worth. It was a game we have been looking forward to. I consider them to be a team that are in the running to wint he competition, so we had to meet them and measure up to them tonight, and we did. I am very pleased. At times we were well and truly run off our feet, our opposiiton played some really good footy and came up with some good defence. The score does not indicate how the flow of the game went. It was a fantastic game of footy, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, I couldn't sit still.
Q) NATHAN BROWN HIGHLIGHTED THE TRY SAVE BY NATHAN HINDMARSH AS THE TURNING POINT, DO YOU AGREE?
A) Yes, it was one of the turning points. The match was a bit like the Pacific Highway tonight, there were twists and turns everywhere. There were so many big plays by some many people - Wade McKinnon did a great job to keep his head when the disurbance was on, Mick Vella's play that led to the second try when he started from zero, and Widders himself for a couple of passes for tries, I just thought it was time for all of us to go home when Eric Grothe chip kicked for a try - itslike, forget it. Eric is an air swing man off kicks normally.
Q) WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE INCIDENT THAT LED TO THE McKINNON TRY?
A) I'd like to see it all again and I would like to calm down before I make any proper comments on it. It was certianly a really important point in the game, and it probably swung the game our way, and that in itself is a huge thing. The Dragons as a group were punished for whatever went on there, it may have cost them two points, and that could be vital. Who knows whether it was the turning point but it was a massive call.
Q) ARE YOU IN A POSITION TO SAY WHETHER IT WAS THE RIGHT CALL?
A) I think it probably was, but I don't want to go any further than that.
Q) WHAT ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTION OF WIDDERS?
A) In view of the issues he has had to deal with in the last week, and I think he dealt with them superbly - we have always known what a great young man he is, and a tremendous football player, but how he handled himslef in the past week is just enormous, he is a guy with great self control and vision, and we all took our hats off to him - he dealt with a difficult situationw ith great balance. He has scored 7 tries himself coming off the bench, and I don't know whether too many others have stats like that. He is a great asset to us, not only the football team, but to the Club. That in itself could be a turning point. I am glad he is on our side.
Q) WHAT ABOUT BEN SMITH'S EFFORT?
A) Ben is porbably a bit like Tim in that he has worked really hard to come into First Grade, he had a taste of it last year and is showing the benfits of that. We can all be talking about Ben's turning points tonight, including the defensive play that led to his big try in the second half - it pushed us out to where we were in control of the game - he is making great progress and reading the play well.
Q) BRIAN ANTHAN BROWN SAID THE KEY FOR PARRA AT FINALS TIME WILLB E HOW TIM SMITH HANDLES THE PRESSURE - WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
A) Well I probably agree. It is a journey as yet unknown, it is part of the intrigue for all of us, but I see nothing to suggest to me that he will be unable to. I wouldn't be betting against him.
Q) HE COMES UP WITH BIG PLAYS AFTER HE MAKES MISTAKES?
A) He sure does. That's how he is, its his nature and I hope he stays that way. He certainly gets over the hump within the game. Tim was pumped for the game like we all were. We got the Dragons at a great time, not only after an origin game but at the end of an Origin series that really takes its toll out of players. Timana did great tonight, his defence was outstanding, he was great. We play them again in a few weeks at Jubilee and it could well be another blockbuster.
