Brian Smith -> Roosters?

At least Hagan was likeable.

Oh, and has a better winning % at the Knights than Smith does.

Ouch.

Karma your raving on like a Tool, honestly anyone can see Smith did one hell of a job, we are top 4 contenders instead of cellar dwellors were would have been under 99% of other coach's as they wouldnt have had the guts.

IMO anyone who's not local we need a coach who isnt afraid to put noses out of joint, not a coach who needs to pander to the locals and keep them onside.

As long as its not a local I am happy.

My best pick for mine this early on is Murray or Lang, experienced coach's not afraid to make hard decisions, dont hold them to how they finished at their last clubs they just did what 9/10 other coach's did and thats stay too long.

I am disgusted..... its 2009!!!!

Yeah Tim, I'm sure all the players will take that into account when they are left wondering what they did to deserve getting told by the latest technology 2009 style instead of face to face by Smith before someone else revealed it...

Brian Smith has been texting stuff for years to his players - maybe he was just a misunderstood genius, ahead of his time... lol

According to The Herald today Smith only did that because the Roosters had leaked it to the media (Fittler said that the Roosters can't keep a secret yesterday at their press conference) and the Sun-Herald were putting it to print Saturday night. The club had a bye, the boys weren't together as a group leading up to it, the Knights board weren't told themselves until Saturday afternoon.

To me, telling them by text was probably the only way. He couldn't physically call all of them ony by one. They wouldn't have got the message as immediate as they did by email. I would prefer that they got told by text rather than not be told at all and find out in Sunday's paper...

If you want to blame anyone, you could blame Burraston who has known for 3 weeks that this could be happening...

That Reyno article is the typical gutter rubbish that I expected from the Telegraph. I'm just surprised that it took them 24 hours to get hold of him!

If Smith was a rookie coach who was unfamiliar with how the media works, and didn't see first hand the Bennett/Roosters situation a few years ago, then I could understand. What did he expect was going to happen?! Some knew about it at the end of last week.

While ever Roosters players found out before Knights players, its a farce. Point the blame all you like to whoever, but its a farce.

Fittler himself said that even the " Under 20's strapper found out before he did " I noticed Noyce stressed how honesty was always important with Fittler and himself, and that " seven and a half months on we are still being honest ". Maybe so, just not OPEN and honest.

I'm unsure how it should have been handled, but I know it should have been handled much better than this.

How can the Knights players and staff not feel betrayed?

So does he tell the players before he tells the board what his decision was? If he doesn't tell the board until Saturday afternoon and the Roosters leak it to the media Saturday afternoon, what choice does he have? We are not privy to when he actually made the decision - we have a bunch of hear-say and your mate who says the Roosters players were told Friday when everything else said in the media suggests otherwise.

So you overlooked the articles yesterday that suggested Roosters players knew about it on Friday?

Links are posted on the forum.

All I saw was Brad Fittler practically say he was the last to find out, and mention others at his own club already knew before him ( the Under 20's strapper being singled out as an example ).

And if Brad Fittler found out at lunchtime Saturday - why is it so hard to believe others at the Roosters didn't know less than 24 hours before?

It was handled poorly Alex, and while ever there are headlines saying " Smith Deal Planned 6 Weeks Ago ", I am sure that not too many Knights players are going to feel anything other than betrayed?

No use trying to convince me about it all anyway , I know when the Roosters knew, but maybe you can use your reasoning with the Knights players themselves who might be still confused?

Pathetic journalism or not, does it dissolve coaches from preaching loyalty and then being hypocrits themselves?

Our players were going to feel betrayed whether Smithy told them before the board met, the board told them after the meeting, or if he wrote each of them a telegram to be sent to each player with each delivered with a town crier style proclamation!

The issue here is not Smith, but the Roosters letting the cat out of the bag. Its just how sport goes with players/coaches/staff etc all moving around from time to time...people are gonna feel slighted by these sorts of things no matter how its handled.

So Smith isn't the one walking out on a Knights contract for a bigger money offer? It's ok to do that if the secret can be kept? HAHAHA. It's the Roosters fault?!

No one can begrudge a bloke for taking more money in their careers, but they need to cop the claims of disloyalty on the chin and accept that they are hypocrits at the same time if they've ever encouraged one of their players to stay loyal for less $.

Christ Karma... Can you not see that the 'Under 20's Strapper' line was sarcasm? He was saying he was told late in the peace... But he also knew it was coming and he has said that a number of times.

You no doubt know what happened - more than the participants in this forum, the board of the club, the players and staff from both the Roosters and Knights, than Burro and probably Smith himself. You won't be told (or open your mind to) otherwise so why are we wasting our time here and not taking everything you say as gospel?

Has Smith ever done this? Your arguement would look pretty silly if this has never occured

Mate I see nothing wrong with what Smiths done.

He got offered a window to look around.

Got a 4 year offer, Probably $200k more per year and a club with a blank cheque book to work with......

What would anyone do.

Alex, I'm not even trying to convince you.

I know when the Roosters players knew, because I trust the Roosters player more than any participant in this forum, the board of the Knights, the other players and staff from the Roosters and Knights, and certainly way above and beyond Burro and Smith, let alone the media spin put on by anyone else.

I couldn't give a rats if you don't take it as gospel, but my point of view based on what I know need not be ridiculed either.
