"EnergyAustralia Stadium used to be such a feared place." Thanks for the keen insight, EAS is now like the bye, a minted two points, this group of players has created quite a legacy, EAS was a fortress, now its a gimme.

"It wasn't a great night by any means," coach Michael Hagan said. Thanks scoop, we'd have never guessed.
From the SMH.

From now on, there is not a single excuse I will accept from that club, there isn't an excuse that explains the disaster this club, staff and players have managed to conjure up.

And if that playing roster is not radically altered for 2006 then we are in for years of disappointment. I just can't believe that anyone would believe that our team is anywhere near FG standard.

I'm guessing "fair-weathered fans" are those who are quick to jump on board when things are going well, but go into hiding or become critical when things aren't.

I suppose what is disappointing is that we're quick to place labels on people when they suggest that there might be a problem. Four months ago, I disagreed with Nuffy's assessment that the club would be wooden spooners in 2005. I had thought that the club couldn't perform any worse than last year. I was wrong. Now, while there is plenty of time to get off the very bottom of the ladder, there is every indication that Nuffy was right about one thing: the club is plummeting, on and off the field.

The biggest disappointment is that some of us will go down with a sinking ship for fear of being labelled unsupportive of the team, or disloyal to the club. But, far from being closest fans, I think those that are now asking the big questions will actually be the supporters who save this club -- save it from naivity, from the fans who think everything will magically turn around, and that the "boys" will just get better next week....... it's been 12 weeks of saying that, and another two years before that.

What is abundantly clear is that things are not getting better -- anyone who thinks a 50 to nil scoreline is a reflection of the club turning its fortunes around needs a bucket of cold water chucked over their head. It's getting worse, and we seem content to sit there are wait for something to happen.

Ignorance is bliss. :(

I mean look at the team on paper last night. The would be lucky to have been 5 regular first greaders so they were never going to win.

The worst thing about losing last night is Souths won which means we need to win AT LEAST 3 games this season to catch the bunnies (assumin they dont win another game).

Not happy!

Souths have had 3 wins and 1 draw with 1 bye. You've had both byes.

You need 4 wins to overtake Souths.

Your assessment of Nuffy Gene is way off the mark. You can whinge and moan, give-up, be overcome by apathy or you can get off your ass and try and make things change. I know for a fact that Nuffy is a leader and one of us who is trying to reform change. There are a core group of us working with the Knights management, expressing the views of fans and sponsors and speaking on behalf of Knights supporters. With what collective influence we have we are trying to force reform. I am not saying that makes us any better than you or anyone else, I am simply saying that your sarcastic criticism of Nuffy was wrong.
Cheers

Fair enough.

I just think that there are a lot of guys on here that fall into the "fairweather" boat and it's sometimes hard to pick them from the real supporters who sit on the hill and cheer no matter what the results.

The team is playing badly right now... with plenty of political upheavals in the background.. losing some very key people, and bringing some newbies into a really hot kitchen must make the Knights an interesting place to work... it would be like getting a job at BHP 2 weeks before they shut the place.. YAY!! :(

Even if the Knights play badly this year... (and they have, lets not deny it..) we still get to see the greatest game of all in our little puddle.. :D

There is a fine line between unconditional support (or "cheering no matter what the result") and apathy (naive support, assuming that they will just get better magically). I suppose both sides each have competing perceptions of each other:

1. The Unconditional Fan

a) Loyal, goes to every game regardless, losses only make him/her more supportive of "the boys", supports without being concerned by the fluctuating year-by-year fortunes of the club. Not a fair-weathered fan.

b) Naive, stupid, completely ignorant of the reasons for the losses, assumes everything will get better, assumes that the glory days will return by themselves, always living in the glory of past success, unconcerned with the running of the club -- off with the fairies.

2. The Critical Supporter

a) Also loyal, but sees a reason for every loss, supports the team but not always the running of the club, critical of some decisions, but supportive of the positive decisions, happy to have players/staff cut from the team even if they're legends, focused on form, performance and results, but remains loyal to the club.

b)
Support is conditional, stops going if they don't win, starts going to games when they do start winning, always whingeing about something until they win the Grand Final when he/she claims to have predicted the team's success, claims that he or she "never stopped supporting" when they actually did stop during the dark years, a fair-weathered supporter.
