Night time. Had a BBQ between reserve grade and NRL grand finals and by kick off it was dark enough to enjoy the game outside on my projector screen.

The problem is that it doesn't rate better.

The last two seasons daytime grand finals of another code has easily out rated night time grand finals.

And funnily enough that particular code is experiencing increased ratings and participation whereas rugby league is stagnating or going backwards?

I read the NRL from 2018 have allowances for KO times. Can they chose a day/twilight GF or does it mean if it's scheduled at 7:15/6:15pm it can't be moved 15 mins (like last night) to get extra ads in?

Not really silly at all. It's current . It's what happening now!

Their happens to be a decline in participation and interest in rugby league and if one code is doing something that is seeing an increase in ratings and participation then surely the other code not doing so well would take note and learn from it?

Yes it's silly.
Because we are comparing ratings when comparing codes there's a lot of other variables.

If the NRL rates better at night (compared to NRL grand finals during the day) It's a no brainer.

That's when I first viewed rugby league as a six year old.

As a compromise 5pm is a good option. I'm thinking its not too late for kids and most people are home from a day out by then. You can still have the arvo BBQ as well and everyone going home by 7pm of they so wish or party on into the night.

Oh, they somehow manage to attract more people to any given finals games too.

Pity we can't learn stuff from them such as; how to attract more than 15,000 people to a sudden death semi-final between two Sydney teams at the SFS for instance...

Agreed, I've just had a squiz on Google and the NRL outrated AFL last year...
Edit oh I see, so yes 2016 AFL did better but 2015 NRL outrated.

Maybe an hour earlier wouldn’t hurt but I like the late start.
Went to the last two and had a great day with the pre drinks and yesterday we didn’t have to rush back from the beach to catch it on TV.
