RL is still very much a low brow working class mentality. I wouldnt think being based in a working class area is that much of a problem?

Woodridge is probably the worst suburb in Brisbane which is smack bang in the middle of Logan lol
Inala is a billion times worse than Woodridge.

Around 20 years ago some funny bugger created a game called "Monopoly: Inala Edition" and sent it to people around Brisbane via e-mail. Ch9 then went to Inala and asked people what they thought and FMD, the people they interviewed proved all the points the Monopoly game made about the place.

Donkeys- I was going to post a cute and witty reply to your retort, but out of respect, I will be direct:-

Here’s what I see with you- you are clearly an intelligent and thoughtful person that is very passionate about your home and surrounds. You are understandably frustrated with the status quo of Rugby League and wish to see a fairer balance of power in particular to the distribution of energy in RL. These are all points I respect in you and regard you well. There is a huge lack of intelligence in general and I appreciate seeing logic, reason and an actual ability to spell and construct well written posts.

But sometimes you let some big subjective opinions drive your heuristics to a point you act as they are objective. This brings you down big time. You also have a tendency to tar people with with the one brush. The world is not so black and white.

Yes, there are some shithole parts to Ipswich, but there’s good and bad everywhere. Logan is no better. Yes, there’s some really nice areas that have high facility and well looked after properties, but Woodridge, Kingston, Slacks Creek, Browns Plains, Hillcrest, Marsden, Creastmead, Loganlea, Eagleby and Boronia Heights are no better than the rough areas in Ipswich. Also, Redcliffe and surrounds are probably just as rough as Ipswich yet it seems to be the front runner.

Again, there’s good and bad at all levels in all areas, and I don’t think Logan is a bad place to live at all. I’m in a nice neighbourhood with mostly owner occupied homes that has a great aesthetic and pride shown in most homes. Plus the ability to work in Brisbane and spend my days on the Coast make it a place I want to stay in.

As for the football team, don’t be an arsehole about a whole area that outright wipes a bid just because of your own prejudice. Argue actual objective truths and listen to what the actual powers to be are giving out.
Fair points.

One of the reasons I put the Jets bid last is because Ipswich's population is too small and it's in an area that most people wouldn't visit very often. At least with Logan people travel through it regularly as it connects Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Jets didn't come into the BRL until 1986, so there isn't much nostalgia or history behind the club. Their link with the failed Bombers bid was done out of desperation.

Moreton Bay and Logan do have rough areas, like Brisbane and every other city, but they have much larger populations than Ipswich and are located in areas that will add to the NRL's footprint without cannibalising the pre-existing clubs.

Brisbane needs a southeastern team and Firehawks are the only bid that meets this requirement. Broncos are a northwestern team with heavy ties to Ipswich. Adding the Jets will cannibalise the Broncos and leave Moreton Bay and the southeast unrepresented. AwFuL club Brisbane Fitzroy Lions Bears are located in the southeast and trying to eat into Logan. Coorparoo is not far from Wooloongabba, so this team would be competing directly with AwFuL for corporate dollars and flying the flag for RL. Plus it creates a north vs south / east vs west derby with the Broncos. It's a win-win.

The Gabba needs an upgrade to compete with Perth Stadium, Adelaide Oval, MCG and SCG for Test cricket matches, as it's now at the bottom of the queue. With the Olympics likely to come here in 2032, there's an opportunity to convert the Gabba into a multi-purpose venue that can be used for football and cricket. Firehawks can be a tennant. Lang Park already has Reds and Broncos.

yeah 20 years ago... Woodridge is the worst now. Go to the train station and have a walk around the shops near by.

LMAO!

Of the 260 suburbs in the Greater Brisbane area, Woodridge is ranked 158th.

Inala is ranked 177th.

typical Donkeys, grabs some useless poll or article and then presents it as fact to back up his argument. Liveability index doesn't mean much. According to that list Warner, Newport, Eatons Hill and Scarborough are below Inala and Woodridge. Scarborough ?? it has multi-million dollar apartments and houses by the sea plus several cafe's and restaurants. I would look at the median house price to get a feel for how dodgy the area is - Inala $365k, Woodridge 305k, Scarborough 650k

anyway this is getting way off topic now...

You were going on about shops before as the metric for a suburb's worth. The poll I showed goes on all sorts of criteria to gauge a suburb's liveability, which includes access to public transport, shops, schools, parks, crime rate and other factors. It's all subjective and depends on what a person wants, which is largely dependent on work requirements, medical condition, marital status and children.

Scarborough is a nicer area, but its location would bring it down for people who have to travel into Brisbane for work. Most people who live there would probably be retired snobs who want to be away from the rat race of Brisbane.

Of course Inala is going to have a higher median property value. It's in the City of Brisbane. You're paying for the location.

Let's just agree that Inala and Woodridge are not the sort of places you would want to raise a young family.

I grew up in an old part of south-eastern Brisbane which has a higher market value than my current home in northern Logan, but I can tell you now that my lifestyle improved tenfold after I made the move. There's no way I would go back to Brisbane.

The Brisbane Jets have made a last-ditch effort to raise $12 million from investors in a bid to assure the NRL it has the financial clout required to become a sustainable 17th franchise.

ARLC chairman Peter V’landys and NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo will next week meet the three prospective Queensland franchises jockeying for a license in an expanded competition. The Jets, an amalgamation of the Brisbane Bombers and western corridor bids, will table their cases alongside the Brisbane Firehawks and Redcliffe Dolphins.
The governing body is doing its own due diligence on the feasibility of expansion after a Gemba Group report, commissioned by 12 of the existing NRL clubs, raised concerns about whether the finances stack up.
The Jets have had questions raised about their own viability and whether they will be able to provide the $10 million guarantee the NRL is seeking. The Herald has obtained a document issued by BlueMount Capital to prospective equity investors, with the minimum buy-in amount set at $1 million.

“The Brisbane Jets are looking to raise at least $12m in direct investment, convertible note, debt financing and/or sponsorships,” the prospectus states.
“The Company is open to discussing various funding structures with potential funders. The minimum investment amount for equity investment has been set at $1m.”
Interested parties have until July 31 to apply, by which time the NRL is scheduled to hand down its decision.

Brisbane Jets powerbroker Steve Johnson was reluctant to comment on specifics of the bid, pointing to the NRL’s request not to make public statements until the process is completed. Asked if the bid had the required capital, Johnson said: “We’re very confident in our financial modelling.”
He also pointed to comments made before the embargo made by Jets official Nick Livermore, who shot down suggestions the bid was not financially sustainable.

The Jets plan to play their home games at Suncorp Stadium and eventually be based out of a proposed North Ipswich Reserve facility. Unlike other bids, they don’t have the backing of a leagues club.

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett, who has made it clear he won’t be returning to the Broncos, will be a likely target for the successful franchise.
Redcliffe, with a reported asset base of $100 million, is the favourite should the NRL opt to hand out a 17th license. However, Johnson believes the Jets make a compelling case.

“We remain very confident in our bid and that we will be able to set up a rugby league club that will do Queensland and rugby league proud for 100 years to come,” Johnson said.
“We can’t say too much because of that embargo.
“We were the first South-East Queensland bid in 2009 with Arthur Beetson. It’s been quite a journey for us, our bid came about for what we saw as the greater good of the game at the time.
“Nothing’s changed 12 years later. It’s exciting to get to the pointy end and one way or another we will have an outcome to expansion. Hopefully it’s a positive one because the game in Queensland does need it.”
The Gemba report concluded that there would be financial upside in expanding the competition to 17 teams, but it may not be enough to offset the negative impacts on the existing Queensland teams. Success rarely occurs early, with the study finding that 83% of the time in the past 15 years, new teams that have entered into Australian sporting competitions finished in the bottom half of their respective leagues.

I'm gonna call it now, it's a two horse race. The expansion team will be Dolphins or Firehawks.

In these kinda situations perception = reality, and if the powers-that-be perceive the Jets bid to be short of cash, it's curtains for them in this expansion phase.

I think there's a chance that the NRL *may* look to accept the Dolphins AND Firehawks into the NRL over the next few years - regardless of the noises they've made about NZ 2. Especially if both can pony-up with substantial expansion fees as "hush money" to be distributed to existing NRL clubs.

Surely that would cover SE Queensland for a long time to come, then they can move on other markets in future expansion.

I think Jets are 20 years away from being a viable bid. Ipswich only has 213k people, with many of them joined at the hip with the Broncos because of its links with Ipswich legends, such as the Walters brothers and Allan Langer.

The Jets are doing it all wrong. They are hoping to recruit fans from Brisbane and Logan, while telling them that they will eventually become an Ipswich team.

Why should I support the Jets when they'll eventually go back to being the Ipswich Jets?

They may not call themselves Ipswich Jets, but that's what they'll be perceived as by playing out of North Ipswich Reserve.

@The Great Dane was correct.

If a cash injection is what it'll take for the 12 dissenting clubs to ease up on their criticism of NRL expansion plans, then it's the likes of Redcliffe & Brisbane Easts (flush with leagues club money) that will come up trumps, as they'll be able to foot the bill for any expansion fee.

That not only rules out the Jets (if indeed they're short of cash), but maybe NZ 2 as well - as they surely won't be able to pay an expansion fee.. which could make a double Brisbane expansion more likely.

Time for PVL to get on the phone with Palaszczuk about building a stadium in Moreton Bay. 😃

I'd again only be looking at moving dolphins to moreton bay, if the next bid was definitely a suncorp tennant (jets or firehawks) so improvements on a boutique stadium is no use if bris2 is the only new team in SEQ, need a bris3 for Vdog to get moreton daily stadium any love, besides they are rich enough to do it themselves, only would need a 20k capacity stadium to play more home games there, although again a need for a bris3 is more nessesary before dolphins diverge to the outkirts of SEQ

Expansion hopes for a second Queensland A-League side may be given a boost, with Ipswich seeking funding for a 20,500 capacity stadium.

The new Ipswich stadium would be home to prospective NRL expansion franchise Brisbane Jets, and is tied into infrastructure projects for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
“It makes sense to invest in the social infrastructure that will support our growing population and provide a pathway for our region’s local playing talent," Ipswich council said.

The North Ipswich Stadium would cost approximately $230 million to build.

If the Dolphins market themselves as the Brisbane Dolphins playing out of Lang Park then it would be suicidal for them to relocate permanently to Moreton Bay, as they would alienate whatever support they mustered in Brisbane. Same goes for Jets if they go down the same route.

Waste of money.

Wait until Ipswich has 500k people, then it might be viable. Brisbane Roar struggle to draw 10k. A second A-League club would be lucky to average 7.5k.

2016 the population was 326k, add in the surrounding areas and your probably not far off that. Not that 500k is some magical viability number. nq has 231k, canberra 395k, Newcastle 322k, Sutherland shire 232k, Penrith 196k Etc etc

In 2016 the population of Ipswich was 200k. Logan's population was 314k in 2016.

I still like the romance of playing their Sydney based games in a Newtown Jets away jersey
