Brisbane Most Favoured Draw continues

I was wondring if someone can post how many Friday Night games Brisbane have played from 2007 to 2011 since the introduction of the 2 friday night games format including how many days between their Games each round from 2007 to 2011.

I noticed already they have been allocated their first 7 games as all Friday night games meaning they have 7 days between each game which no other NRL club has- Hence my interest in this 2007 to 2011 period.

Clearly this is unacceptable as why should one club be given preferential treatment over 15 others. This BS about it being a huge market for league in Brisbane/Qld and they have to show a Queensland team (always seems to be Brisbane) live on Fridays is bunkum - Why can't the 2 friday night games involve 4 sydney teams or 4 non sydney/qld teams for example- if they so love the league in qld does it matter who is playing?.

Who is responsible for this draw and game allocation anyway??

Brisbane rates - simple. We're the most recognised brand in Australian sport.

Having said that, Broncos fans are just as annoyed as the rest of you at basically only having Friday nights to go watch our team play live. It means I can't take my kids, who are too young to be up that late.

The Broncos aren't getting preferential treatment over 15 clubs, in reality it's two clubs.

The reigning wooden spooners & a side that prefers to play their home games on Saturday night.

And gUt once again does a sublime job summing up the general feeling amongst Broncos fans.

Petes right with the cowboys games, saturday night is the ideal night for crowds at DFS as many people outside of tvlle go to games and the club wants this to happen as much as possible and with tropical heat sunday arvo games are out of the question.

Friday night features a top quality match and the Broncos are perenial semi finalists. So they play in plenty of hyped up top of the table matches each season and they are usually going to be on Friday night. Clubs that are generally in the bottom half of the ladder know that they won't get many Friday games.

Channel 9 wants the Broncos to play on Fridays when possible but if they were sh!t they wouldn't be on as often. They get an advantage from their location and from their ability.

gUt got it right. Saturday night and sunday arvo's would be the go. Its a mission to get there from the sunny coast on a friday night.

Makes sense for the Cowboys to do this.
All clubs put in requests for what they want from the draw and some will be met. Newcastle requested a home game against St George in round 1 and got it. When Bellamy coached Origin he requested that the Storm games were played in the same city as the Origin matches so he didn't have to leave camp.
I'm not sure if you could ask to play against Melbourne during Origin, that might be a bit rich.

You can always rely for this topic to be brought up around this time every year. Every year it is explained that Brisbane's preferred game time is Sunday afternoon, but every subsequent year, the "Broncos getting preferential treatment" rubbish comes out again. And the cosmic dance goes on...

If Brisbane are getting preferential treatment, why did they only get one maybe two Sunday afternoon games last season?

Oh, and blame Nein.

there are 15 other teams in the comp what does friday night football have to involve a qld team for (most times the bronco's) in any case- are you saying brisbane/qld wont watch any game not involving brisbane or the other 2 QLD teams?- Brisbane are getting preferential treatment over the other 15 teams in being able to attract more sponsorship because of being on tv virtually every week and having the luxury of 7 days between games which no doubts gives them an unfair advantage in relation to preparing for the next game and treatment of players injuries whose injuries if only a 4 or 5 day turnaround would rule them out but being 7 they are able to play. time for the commission to step in and allocate the games fairly and evenly across friday/saturday/sunday/monday for all clubs. just remember channel 10 is in the bid and 7 for SOO so the commission can demand equity in tv game allocations.

Its all well and good to have a 'Qld Match' and a 'NSW match' on a friday night but the fact is there is 3 Qld teams and 13 from NSW/Vic/NZ.

Doesn't matter if its Brisbane/Nth Qld/Titans its going to get repetitive at some point.

Why, with only 3 teams in Qld does there have to be a QLD game every friday night?

it dont matter what they say they prefer they are getting preferrential treatment. Obviously your elevator doesn't go all the way to the top to see this- being on TV more than any other team enables them to attract more sponsorship and sell more merchandise and attract more members and people to games plus the 7 day break between games they enjoy most of the season gives them an unfair advantage over other teams in preparing for games plus players who may be ruled if it was a shorter turnaroud of 4 or 5 days are able to play as a result of the 7 day turnaround. Its a 16 team comp not the Broncos and a couple of others and the rest.

So Channel 9 can broadcast two different games in two different markets simultaneously and get the most value out of their arrangement.

in any case- are you saying brisbane/qld wont watch any game not involving brisbane or the other 2 QLD teams?
No, but it's fair to say that Queensland teams will draw more interest in the Queensland markets.

Brisbane are getting preferential treatment over the other 15 teams in being able to attract more sponsorship because of being on tv virtually every week and having the luxury of 7 days between games which no doubts gives them an unfair advantage in relation to preparing for the next game and treatment of players injuries whose injuries if only a 4 or 5 day turnaround would rule them out but being 7 they are able to play.
There are certainly perks on being on FTA tv, no one is arguing that point but what seems to be forgotten is the effect this has on crowds. Plenty of Brisbane supporters have complained online about the amount of Friday night games we receive and how difficult it is to consistently make it that night. Brisbane have even stated they would prefer a Sunday afternoon time-slot but it's very rarely approved and as a fan of attacking Rugby League that annoys me.

I hope we see changes in the television schedule - I don't think anybody on here disagrees. As Ikin would say believe you and me, the product could only improve if we got rid of the Friday night double header and shifted that game onto Sunday. But as far equality across the NRL - never going to happen nor should it. NRL fans want to see the best of the best - not cellar dwellers. So this idea of an even split where each club must play 6 games on Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday should and won't happen.

actually i think a survey was done a few years ago looking at all sporting teams in australia and brisbane came out on top.

I'm a broncos fan but i'm also a league fan. I think the only way to really grow our game is give all clubs a go. sure we're not going to ever see an equal amount of friday/sat/sun/mon games in every timeslot but currently there are clubs who never get a fair go (i.e. raiders) and this subsequently affects sponsorships, crowds etc etc.

i've said for years that what needs to happen is every team gets a minimum of x amount of HOME friday night games, x amount of HOME monday night games, X amount of saturday games at 5:30 and sunday games. this is the only way to at least give all clubs a chance of exposure

if that means that nein has to show raiders vs brisbane as one of the raiders home friday night games so be it, but it at least gives the raiders some publicity

put the tigpies on a friday night, show soufs on friday night, let the storm play a monday night game in melb but give all clubs a f**king go
