actually i think a survey was done a few years ago looking at all sporting teams in australia and brisbane came out on top.

I'm a broncos fan but i'm also a league fan. I think the only way to really grow our game is give all clubs a go. sure we're not going to ever see an equal amount of friday/sat/sun/mon games in every timeslot but currently there are clubs who never get a fair go (i.e. raiders) and this subsequently affects sponsorships, crowds etc etc.

i've said for years that what needs to happen is every team gets a minimum of x amount of HOME friday night games, x amount of HOME monday night games, X amount of saturday games at 5:30 and sunday games. this is the only way to at least give all clubs a chance of exposure

if that means that nein has to show raiders vs brisbane as one of the raiders home friday night games so be it, but it at least gives the raiders some publicity

put the tigpies on a friday night, show soufs on friday night, let the storm play a monday night game in melb but give all clubs a f**king go

I was pretty curious myself, had a quick look. This was on the Broncos website:

• Broncos – Australia’s Most Widely Supported Sporting Club
The latest Roy Morgan Research has named the Broncos as Australia’s most widely supported sporting club, with the Broncos returning to number one and being the first NRL team to hold the top spot since 2004. The Broncos have 1.259 million supporters, overtaking AFL club the Sydney Swans (1.22 million supporters).

Tbh, I was thinking maybe even Collingwood!

EDIT: I should stop skimming thru posts, just realised this had been posted 8 minutes before, lol

So millions were surveyed to obtain these results??- Sydney Swans have 1.22 million supporters and Brisbane 1.259? So Melbourne storm could have more then if they surveyed Melbournians for their favourite NRL side
I would like to see the numbers and location of those surveyed and how they calculated these figures etc

raiders v storm on a cold Canberra friday night for an example- i dont want to see clubs having to play brisbane to get a friday night game

Brisbane's Media Manager actually door-knocked every single house in Australia, even tent city!

I think you'll find the "preferential treatment" relates to the amount of FTA time Brisbane gets and how that relates to corporate support.

Brisbane are a one town team in a city of over 3,000,000, whereas a side like Cronulla who are one team out of 9 in a city of just over 4.1 million. The math and subsequent FTA over exposure of one club is easy to see. If people cannot see the inequality of this issue relating to corporate support, well heaven help them.

It's a fair gripe IMO

No one's denying it's a fair gripe but it's Channel 9's prerogative, not the NRL's (powerless) and not Brisbane's (loving it).

Hopefully the IC can resolve the issue to assist clubs who find it more difficult to attract corporate support.

As a dragon fan I'd happily forego a few FTA games to other clubs to make the overall game stronger.

The Broncos aren't getting preferential treatment over 15 clubs, in reality it's two clubs.

The reigning wooden spooners & a side that prefers to play their home games on Saturday night.

And gUt once again does a sublime job summing up the general feeling amongst Broncos fans.

But its not just Brisbane home games that are televised into QLD though, is it? (genuine question)

Of course not.

I know the Cowboys still have 12 games they could have been televised at that time-slot.

 lol @ the OP.

Has he been living in a bubble for the last five years ? How could anyone not be aware that channel 9 (and Fox to a lessor extent) schedules the games.

I call bullshit on any survey that says swans are second most supported team in Australia.

it dont matter what they say they prefer they are getting preferrential treatment. Obviously your elevator doesn't go all the way to the top to see this- being on TV more than any other team enables them to attract more sponsorship and sell more merchandise and attract more members and people to games plus the 7 day break between games they enjoy most of the season gives them an unfair advantage over other teams in preparing for games plus players who may be ruled if it was a shorter turnaroud of 4 or 5 days are able to play as a result of the 7 day turnaround. Its a 16 team comp not the Broncos and a couple of others and the rest.

It's my opinion that the impact of this "preferrential treatment" is negligible. Put together the turnaround times for all teams across the season and I think you'll find that it evens out across the comp pretty well.

Being the only team in Brisbane allows them to attract more sponsorship and sell more merchandise. More games on FTA is a by product of that, not the reason.
