I think they know the chances of CQ getting a team are zero so no harm in promising the world when you are confident you will never have to deliver on it.
Byes?
Thats great. So we will have 2 clubs being carried TV deal-wise every week. As I said, there is diminishing returns in terms of TV rights value as the comp grows larger.
I wonder how the networks would feel about not even reaching some markets each week? Or the clubs, having to split the revenue from 20 teams across 22.
Each expansion licence is a valuable and limited comodity.
You are overly optimistic about player depth too.
Exactly. So we effectively have 10 games generating revenue from 20 teams, and we have 2 teams sitting on their hands.
How is Thursday night any different to Monday night?
Bombers bid due shortly
Leaders behind a bid to launch a second NRL club in Brisbane say they are within days of finalising a proposal.
If successful, the Brisbane Bombers could enter the NRL in as soon as 2013 although it remains unclear when expansion of the competition will be sanctioned.
Under the bid the Bombers would share Suncorp Stadium with the Brisbane Broncos as a home venue, which bid leaders say will give fans a chance to watch live matches each week.
However the Bombers would be based out of a redeveloped Albion Park, currently a Greyhound track.
Bid leaders are confident there is demand for a second team in the city as well as the financial support and have promised $1million annually for youth development.
“Naturally there are a number of key factors we can cover within our Bid Documentation at this stage, including a community engagement program, corporate and sponsorship strategy along with the grassroots development of Rugby League, but the Independent Commission maybe looking for something particular that we will need to tweak, which is why we’ve had a sliding business plan since day one,” said bid delegate Craig Davison.
The NRL's long-awaited independent commission, a body to run the sport made of club representatives which is due to be launched shortly, are likely to consider rival bids from Perth, Ipswich, NSW Central Coast, Central Queensland, Papua New Guinea and Wellington.
It is expected to be funded by cash from an increased TV rights deal due to be negotiated in the coming months.

Bombers poised for announcement
THE Brisbane Bombers say they will be in a position to announce their coach, captain and several players the moment they are given the green light to be part of the NRL.
General manager of the Bombers Expansion Bid, Craig Davison, denies a decision has already been made on the head coaching position.
Davison was at pains to point out potential coaches and players had approached the club, through their managers, not the other way round.
He said the potential coaches came from the NRL, England and Queensland's Intrust Super Cup.
"We're very flexible," he said. "We have no one signed up and we have not given any guarantees."
Nevertheless, the Bombers issued a media alert yesterday claiming that Brisbane-bred NRL players would jump at the chance to play for the Bombers.
"We will announce our coach, captain and a number of squad members the moment we're given the green light - they are just as excited as we are," Bombers commercial manager Nick Livermore said.
Davison admitted "they" referred to players and coaches who entertained ideas about playing for the Bombers, and only Canberra Raiders Test forward David Shillington had made any concrete commitment to the new club. Shillington has a five-year deal with Canberra.
It includes a get-out clause should the Bombers get the green light from the new independent commission. The 2015 season shapes as the year for an increase in clubs from 16 to 18. The expansion bid teams - the Bombers, Western Corridor, Redcliffe and Central Queensland - are set to step up the propaganda war once the commission is in place.
Central Queensland last week issued a statement outlining the "compelling reasons" why they should get the nod.
Davison believes at least one other southeast Queensland bid team will surface soon.
The establishment of the commission has been put on hold following the postponement of today's Australian Rugby League annual meeting in Sydney.
The meeting was meant to officially bring down the curtain on the NRL Partnership between the ARL and News Ltd (publishers of The Courier-Mail) with the commission to take over immediately, but several legal issues relating to the handover have to be resolved first, with soem relating to existing sponsors.
ARL chief executive Geoff Carr said the national body, as well as the Queensland and NSW leagues, had signed off on all their legal responsibilities.
