Brisbane Jets will enter the competition as team 21 along with Adelaide Rams as team 22 in 2036 when we move to two division national competition.

no…

let’s see the state of play in 10 years time when the NRL might start the process of Brisbane 3
That's a very shrewd point.

At the moment, it looks like it'll be Perth, PNG then NZ 2 (likely Christchurch) as teams 18-20.

If that's the case then another SE-Qld team won't be until mid 2030s, earliest - unless a club falls-over and the NRL needs a contingency replacement option FAST to keep honoring broadcast contracts.

The landscape in Brisbane may change quite a bit before we get to that - and may not even resemble where we're at now.

Just relocate West Tigers to West Brisbane/Ipswich. Won’t even need to change the name. Hopefully they will stop being so rubbish. Alternatively, just wait until PNG falls over and then bring them in.

As good as that may sound, there's little likelihood of that happening.

The club grants are typically enough to cover a club's costs year to year - and even IF a "big bad" like Covid happens again & chops down the NRL & clubs' revenue to a point where a club testers, the NRL have shown time and again to be unwilling to use a bailout as leverage for relocation.

I think PNG will be a spectacular failure but the AUS govt won't ever drop the funding.

Moving wests tigers isn't a bad idea. They are owned by a leagues club which isn't adjacent to their ground so an offer to buy the license might be accepted.

They have learnt from the past …. the AFL also refuses to let their heartland clubs go bust …Nth Melb and St Kilda have been close in the past …some of their basket case Melb teams actually get bigger AFL grants than others … imagine the Tigers and Sharks getting more money than the other NRL teams ! Heads would explode …
