Honestly more QLD clubs the better.
but the perfect number for me would be 5.
Brisbane Broncos
Gold Coast Titans
North QLD Cowboys
Sunshine State Dolphins
South QLD ????? Sabres, Jets.
Yep, 5 is the perfect number. I'd stop there.

SEQ:

North - Dolphins
City - Broncos
South - Titans
West - Jets

Plus
Cowboys for Nth QLD and the team for regional QLD

Allows the NRL to grow into the future with this expanding heartland.

PS all talk about AFL in the western corridor is bullshit fear mongering. AFL wish they had that kind of love, they don't. The Premiership winning Lions have filled their ground once out of three games this year and their TV audience in Brisbane would barely fill Suncorp.

Agree with all of this.

Remember when I said the Dolphins would completely fail to capture the market in Brisbane and that would lead to there being almost immediate calls for more teams in Brisbane. . . Yeah, this is that, and it's too late. You've already f**ked it and splintered the market. In the long term the NRL will end up needing four or five teams to maintain market coverage over every shitty little region of Brisbane, and probably another on the Sunshine Coast.

Meanwhile in the rest of the country there's crickets. Not a single genuine plan for growth. At best Perth will be given a trojan horse in the Bears, and even that's shaky now.

Expansion should have been a straightforward home run for the NRL...

Calls from the head of the QRL… what a shock..

That muppet Ikin is calling for another Qld team , because he is a self interested flog like most of the “important people” in Rugby League … he wouldn’t be satisfied if there were 10 teams there

Yeh I remember you were one of those who thought admitting the dolphins was a bad idea

Why anyone would expect a north Brisbane / Redcliffe team would capture the south west Brisbane market is puzzling

That’s kind of his point lol.
An East Tigers owned club covering all south of river and broncos focussing on all north of river covers brisbane without the need for a third license being used up.
But hey, new ltd gets what news ltd wants.

Queensland rugby league territories in relation to NRL clubs aren’t necessarily split like Sydney.

Generally, people go for who they go for. You’ll find plenty Phins merch on people in Logan, Ipswich, Goldie, Brissie, Moreton, Sunny Coast etc. You’ll find plenty people wear Broncos merch or Cowboys merch and occasionally Titans merch in various regions outside their “home” region too.

Sure, some clubs have better representation of local fans in certain areas ie north qld obviously have predominantly Cowboys fans but you’ll find quite a few Broncos fans mixed in too. Club support isn’t necessarily a geographical thing as much as it is a brand thing. A lot of people just see it as a Queensland club with “insert brand” that they support.

As it filters beyond NRL you do get the old head BRL/Q Cup diehards with unwavering passion towards their clubs but a lot of that is based on who they played for as a junior more so than where they actually reside these days. IE plenty blokes who give their time to Wynnum Seagulls live in Logan, plenty blokes who give their time to Tigers don’t necessarily live anywhere near Coorparoo etc.

People other than you were talking about an third Brisbane side well before the Dolphins. Why? Because of the positive benefits to the game here, not because the Dolphins were the wrong choice or because they'd fail (another one of your incorrect predictions).

Dolphins crowds and ratings are good, Broncos have gone through the roof. What a joke of a post.

It's a valid point though.

2 sides in Brisbane should be enough to cater for the whole city for at least a decade.

The fact that so soon after there admittance people are calling for another 1 or 2 Brisbane sides suggests a problem.

The fact that it's 2025 and we have barely gone beyond two states suggests how poorly considered expansion is.

I mean the CEO was talking about f**king Hawaii the other day!
